Position Summary:
Mozamo is seeking an Assistant Structure Representative to work on projects in Santa Cruz, CA. The Assistant Structure Representative assists the Structure Representative and Resident Engineer and works as a field engineer/inspector to ensure contractors build structures in compliance with the contract documents on highway construction projects. Highway construction projects involve bridges, buildings, walls, barriers, drainage structures, and sign structures.
Responsibilities:
- Performs construction and engineering inspections to assure materials and workmanship incorporated in the construction project conform with the requirements of the approved plans and specifications, including approved changes.
- Provides timely updates to the client, supervisor and Structure Representative.
- Documents observations of construction activities through daily diaries and photos.
- Performs required calculations such as alignment, grade (elevation control), quantities of work performed, or materials placed.
- Assists with monthly progress pay estimates.
- Develops contract quantity estimate documents at least once monthly and as materials are placed.
- Reviews submittals, RFIs, and shop drawings to ensure compliance with the requirements of the approved plans and specifications.
- Provides guidance to less-experienced field staff as needed.
- Collaborates with other field representatives or project leads.
- Records and files project related records pertaining to construction progress including daily reports, submittals, shop drawings, monthly pay estimates, and job expenditures.
- Assists the project lead in preparing final project closeout documents, including the resolution of potential claims.
- Confers with contractors regarding compliance with plans, quality of work, construction activity, and California Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Cal/OSHA) regulations.
- Perform other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Possess a two-year degree from a pre-engineering program.
- Two years of experience performing the duties as am Assistant Structures Representative for construction inspection projects (Caltrans experience preferred).
- Experienced and certified in field concrete sampling and testing (ACI Field Technician I and/or CTM 500 series)
- Proficient using computer software programs in the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and Adobe Acrobat.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Must be able to work some nights and some weekends as required.
- Must apply safety philosophy and program to all operations.
- Ability to work safely in an outside environment with exposure to hazards on construction sites, including heights, highway traffic, and traversing rough terrain in evaluating highway construction.
- Must be able to perform moderate physical activity including but not limited to walking, climbing, balancing, kneeling, and standing.
- Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Requires close visual acuity to review and interpret plan details.
- Must be able to survey and inspect construction sites in rough terrain and variable temperatures.
- Valid California Driver’s License required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelors of Science degree in civil engineering or Engineer-in-Training certificate.
- Registered professional engineer licensed in the State of California.
- Knowledge and experience with Caltrans specifications.
- Possess a valid Standard First Aid Certificate.
