Senior Scientist – Chemical/Biological Sciences
We currently have an opening for a Senior Scientist/Chemist in Chemical/Biological Sciences located in Gaithersburg, MD. The successful candidate will join a team of scientists actively conducting field forensic sample handling, analysis, sample management, inventory management, procurement, sampling kit development, shipping and handling, and logistics coordination.
Principal Accountabilities and Success Factors
Successful candidates will have a passion for applied research and developing technically sound solutions to real-world problems. Examples of activities for this position may include one or more of the following:
Laboratory skills to complement the MRIGlobal focus in assay characterization, method development for qualitative and quantitative analysis of protein and nucleic acids, sample preparation and analysis, XRF, DART, microRaman, microIR, Gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS), EPA methods 8260, 624, and 1311.
Client Communication – Providing clear and actionable communication between Clients and the scientific team
Instrument Test and Evaluation – Developing and adapting methods for novel and established instruments and equipment
Recording, processing, and interpreting data Development of experimental plans for testing, evaluating, and validating systems for use in operational programs serving US Government and commercial client needs
Laboratory Management – Sample, database and inventory management, collection kit management
Logistics management– Transportation, delivery, shipping, handling

Minimum Qualifications
Ph.D. in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, or related field of study and a minimum 3 years of appropriate related experience; or
M.S. in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, or related field of study and a minimum 6 years of related experience; or
B.S. in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, or related field of study and minimum 9 years of related experience; or appropriate combination of education and experience.
Willing to assume responsibility for laboratory areas to meet all safety and security requirements.
Demonstrate creative problem resolution; meets client expectations in a timely fashion.
Well organized and methodical, yet flexible to changing priorities. Manages time well.
Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously either in structured or non-structured work environment.
Proficient PC skills and ability to learn new software and systems.
Ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance. In order to meet the government security investigation requirements, U.S. citizenship is a requirement.
Preferred Qualifications:
Biosafety Level 2 or higher experience
Overseeing and coordinating lab activities for Facilities, Security, Safety, IT and Quality
Previous experience working on USG sponsored contracts
Familiarity with hazardous shipping, logistics management and sample custody tracking are desired.
Active Security Clearances are a plus
Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. To meet the government security investigation requirements, U.S. citizenship is a prerequisite.
