Our client is seeking a Civil Engineer (Water Resources) to join their team, located in Alexandria, Virginia. If you are a Civil Engineer with a background in water resources design, this is the job for you! As a Civil Engineer, you will be working directly for a Professional Engineer designing underground stormwater management systems that detain, filter and infiltrate stormwater runoff for commercial/municipal projects located throughout the country. Designs will consist of hydraulic routing analysis of detention ponds using HydroCAD, and hydraulic sizing of sand filters and proprietary micro-bioretention systems using custom computer programs.
Primary Responsibilities
- Work closely with site design engineering consultants to provide them with stormwater management solutions for their projects, that are in conformance to local stormwater regulations, utilizing products.
- Perform hydraulic routing designs for underground stormwater detention system using HydroCAD Stormwater Modeling Software.
- Perform hydraulic designs of underground sand filters and for micro-bioretention filters, in accordance to local stormwater regulations, using custom computer programs.
- Create submittal packages, consisting of drawings and calculations of system designs, for consulting engineers to include in their project submissions.
- Work with custom programs to create detailed drawings, and when necessary, bills of material to be used in the manufacture and installation of our products.
- Review design information, site plans, and manuals to determine critical dimensions of design.
- Understand and evaluate pertinent regulations from a wide variety of jurisdictions
- Perform calculations to produce design information necessary to create product fabrication drawings.
- Utilize applications such as AutoCAD and Excel daily in completing drawings to meet project deadlines.
- Confer with the engineering manager to determine design requirements, modifications, and issues.
- Efficiently produce accurate designs and drawings for review and approval by the engineering manager.
- Prioritize assigned projects based on due date.
- Coordinate with other team members to accomplish required tasks.
- Develop and maintain standard and custom details and designs for all product families.
- Interface between Commercial Operations, precast manufacturers, fabrication plant managers and customer service representatives when necessary.
- May visit precast manufacturing facility or project sites.
- Work independently with minimal supervision.
Required Education, Skills and Experience
- B.S. in Civil Engineering from an accredited engineering program
- EIT or EI certification
- 2 to 3 years civil engineering experience (site civil preferred)
- Proficient in current versions of AutoCAD 2D or 3D
- Experience with HydroCAD, TR-20 or other stormwater modeling software
- Experience with Detention Pond modeling/design
- Ability to grasp and understand structural concepts
- Ability to accurately read and interpret site plans
- Ability to understand and visualize how a designed product will be installed and interact with surrounding area on a job site
- Ability to analyze and problem solve with creative thinking when standard designs are not able to be used
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written. Communications will be via phone, personal and written correspondence.
