Director-level Human Resources Consultant – Part-time, On-demand
A restaurant group is seeking a fractional Human Resources Consultant to support their growing enterprise. The work will support 20 franchise restaurants in several fast food and casual dining chains. They will continue to grow by acquisition and will soon own 34 restaurants in Northern California and employ over 700 associates. The most recent expansion has triggered a need for part-time professional support in Human Resources, and we are seeking an experienced Human Resources consultant with an HR generalist background.
Duties
- Advises owners and restaurant managers on Human Resources matters.
- Standardizes HR work and documents procedures.
- Leads recruiting for all management-level positions including job description development, job posting, candidate interviews, offer support, and background check.
- Manages onboarding for management-level employees, including developing an onboarding checklist, and ensuring all onboarding tasks are completed.
- Tracks and reports on employee training and communicates with restaurant management to achieve 100% compliance.
- Leads time-sensitive employee relations investigations and makes recommendations to management.
- Develops and delivers management training to improve operations and compliance.
- Coordinates eligibility for benefits, such as health insurance and employee incentives.
- Respond timely to unemployment and workers compensation claims. Support legal claims by gathering and submitting documents.
- Supports communication with restaurant managers.
- Leads monthly safety training and discussion.
- Facilitates compliance training, such as sexual harassment, as needed.
- Reviews Human Resources handbook and revises policy, as needed.
- Develop performance appraisal and key performance indicators (KPI) for management employees.
- May assist with acquisition of new restaurants.
- Additional projects may include revising management bonus program tied to KPIs.
- Additional duties, as assigned.
Requirements
- 12 years Human Resources experience in recruiting, employee relations, and Human Resources business partner experience.
- 2 years consulting for multiple clients is preferred.
- Knowledge of federal and California state and local laws regarding employment.
- Flexibility to work as needed to support employee relations issues.
- Restaurant industry experience a plus; experience managing non-exempt employees required.
- Located in Northern California and able to drive to sites in Northern California for compliance inspections and/or employee-related issues. Travel is anticipated up to 10% .
- Available daily to take calls from site managers to approve terminations or address urgent problems.
- Reports on key metrics, recruiting, HR projects and employee relations on a weekly basis.
