Application Engineer

MurCal Inc., a leader in the development and design of engine controllers for the commercial and industrial engine markets with a 60 year history, has an immediate opportunity for an Applications Engineer.

Job Description

MurCal Inc. is seeking an Applications Engineer to modify and test software for its engine controller and display products. As a blend of electrical, mechanical, and application-level software development, you will be joining a team and working across several products. This is a full-time, entry-level, on-site position at our Palmdale CA facility.

Responsibilities

A MurCal Applications Engineers working responsibilities fall into five categories:

• Customer Facing – you will be working with our regional sales staff as well as customers to properly scope, quote, and help them land those quoted projects.
• Software Modifications – you will be working with a variety of control products that MurCal sells for the industrial, marine, and agricultural engine markets, but primarily with products from companies like Enovation Controls, F.W. Murphy Production Controls, CRE Technology Controls, and MurCal Control Products. These products typically require software modifications to be made to already existing code for OEM and customer-specific integrations.
• Software Test – you will be working on testing software modifications done by other applications engineers as part of a software quality control process.
• Control Cabinet and Wire Harness Design – You will be designing industrial control panels, including electrical schematics and mechanical design, as well as wire harness design for engine harnesses and vehicle/equipment harnesses and their associated BOMs.
• Travel – Some travel will be required as part of key account customer relations, ongoing support, and final acceptance testing, and validation.
• Controls and control systems experience is desirable, but not required.
• It is not necessary to have every skillset listed.

Position Skillset:

• BS in ME or EE
• 1 years experience with the following
  • DC electrical systems
  • Experience working with design tools such as AutoCAD and Zuken E3 Suite for both electrical, mechanical, and wire harness design.
  • Experience with 3D modeling design tools such as AutoCAD Inventor for mechanical and sheet metal design.
• Things you will be specifically expected to learn on the job
  • Application development within PowerVision Configuration Studio, an IDE purpose-built for Enovation Controls glass front and tactile button display hardware and engine controllers.
  • Communication standards such as Modbus RTU RS482 / RS232, Modbus TCP/IP and SAE J1939 CANbus
  • Test tools and/or software specific to these standards
  • Willingness to learn and develop the necessary skillsets for working on software projects.
  • A U.S. Citizen
