What You'll Accomplish

Oversee and manage on-site staff of 6 or more in the safe and timely manner of installation and de-installation of exhibits and special projects as well as Museum exhibits around the world

Oversee and maintain museum-owned touring exhibits through venue communication as main technical contact and maintain all touring exhibit inventory.

Schedule travel arrangements for touring teams as well as schedule and coordinate internal staffing of exhibit installations.

Work with exhibit management to create policies and procedures for department operations and safety protocol.

If necessary, repair or assist in the repair of permanent and temporary exhibits both on-site and outside the building.

Be an active supervisor within the EOS department when not away on assignment.

What We're Looking For (Competencies)

Industry leadership : You have successfully led teams of 6 or more in installing exhibits, theatrical productions, or event sets, demonstrating the ability to foster a positive and collaborative work environment. This role requires a leader who ensures that installations meet institutional goals and navigates diverse cultures and work styles, representing the Museum professionally with all levels of staff-from the President to front-line team members. You excel at problem-solving, resolving conflicts, and maintaining a harmonious atmosphere among staff and installation crews. Additionally, you bring the ability to serve as a spokesperson for the Museum, engaging with media from around the globe.

You enjoy getting out of the office : This role will have domestic (U.S.) and international travel responsibilities to cover our vast footprint of exhibits worldwide. Trips could last as short as a few days to as long as 6 weeks.

Not afraid to get your hands dirty : You have a decent knowledge of power and hand tools and may even have a license to drive a forklift-or at least be willing and able to obtain one. Electrical work also does not scare you and you know about how things are wired. But it is a must to have a valid driver's license. Don't apply if you don't have one.

Lead by example : You can show, not just tell team members how to do something. You are routinely seen as a mentor by inexperienced staff and are willing to do the work alongside of the team to demonstrate some ways the tasks can be done.

Skills Required :

  • Must have experience with hand and power tools
  • Hands on installation and maintenance will be 60% of this position
  • Must be able to push heavy crates
  • Knowledge of truck loading and unloading
  • One or more specific skill knowledge in the field of Theatrical Rigging, lighting, Audio Visual, Multimedia, computer hardware, mechanical repair
  • Software basic understanding of spreadsheets, Vectorworks or other CAD reading and basic use.
  • Willingness to work at moderate heights 10 to 30 feet.
  • Must be able to travel to all potential locations around the world (For example Canada will not allow anyone who has ever had a DUI into the country even if they won't be driving)
  • Ability to lift minimum 70 lbs., push on wheels 500 lbs.,
  • Forklift and ariel lift experience is a big plus
  • Ability to complete work within deadlines. This can mean working 10 days straight and working evenings (For example, Madrid work started at midnight and went to 4 : 00 am; Tokyo was midnight to 9 : 00 am for the total installation).

Salary Range

71,325-$82,000 USD
