Description of Work
A Chief Clerk / District Court, under the direction of the Clerk of the Court and the Clerical systems Manager, performs a variety of high level clerical functions within the district court that are often complex and confidential. A Chief Clerk also provides support and non-disciplinary supervision to a team of court clerks within one of four major divisions within the district court. An employee in this class is expected to exercise good judgment, utilizing knowledge obtained on the job to provide guidance to the public and other clerical staff, referring only the most difficult matters to the clerical systems manager or other supervisory personnel for direction and guidance. Employees in this class must be deputized and bonded to make clerical actions legally effective
Required Minimum Entrance Qualifications
Have a minimum of five (5) years full-time progressively responsible clerical experience OR Have graduated from a two (2) year clerical or business training program from an accredited college or business school; AND have a minimum of two (2) years full-time progressively responsible clerical experience OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Preferred but Not Required
A minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience is preferred. A minimum of two (2) years of clerical experience within a court system is preferred, but not required.

EVALUATION CONTENT
The selected candidate must take a post-offer medical examination (including back screen and complete physical) and drug screening test given by a County appointed physician before the first day of employment. An offer of employment is contingent upon the results of the medical examination and drug screening test. Applicants for County employment may be subject to a post-offer criminal background check, depending on the nature and assignment of the position. When such check is conducted, an offer of employment is contingent upon the results of the criminal background check. Appointees must satisfactorily complete a probationary period before the appointment will be considered permanent.

PURPOSE
The purpose of this recruitment is to establish an eligible list from which to fill present and future vacancies in this classification in the County system. For each opening, the Department Head has her / his choice of the candidates who meet the required minimum entrance qualifications. This list remains in effect for three months unless exhausted or extended.
