JOB SUMMARY
The Buyer evaluates suppliers on prices, quality of products and average shipping times to determine the optimal sources for procurement. The Buyer researches, evaluates, and purchases services, supplies, and equipment based on price, service level, quality and terms to meet the needs of the Company.
REPORTING TO
Purchasing Manager
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Primary interface for site MRO purchases
- Monitor all purchase orders for wires, washers and MRO to affect the greatest savings within reasonable delivery time.
- Entering data to into ERP or any other system available to maintain a purchase log.
- Provide timely turn around on all requisitions and purchase orders to insurance delivery of goods and services.
- Maintain up to date vendor list.
- Receive all product, material, and customer returns in the system and distribute to receiving inspector.
- Place and administer purchase order for assigned materials and outside service
- Cultivates and maintains relationship with suppliers
- Maintains inventory/parts in the ERP system.
- Manage common stock items including office supplies for order placement while developing new practices for increasing efficiency
- Coordinate with corporate office regarding supply chain on organizational initiatives
- Adhere and comply with the company safety procedures and overall company policies.
- Perform other related duties and activities as assigned based on peak workloads.
SKILLS and ABILITIES
- Familiar with ERP/MRP
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Attention to detail and time management skills
- Negotiating experience
- Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve
- Good analytical, planning, and organizational skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong customer service focus and flexibility for handling a wide range of activities
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks with strict deadlines
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with frequently changing dynamics
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited higher learning institution with studies in Business, Operations, Supply Chain or related field preferred
- 1 – 3 years’ experience in purchasing raw materials, materials management, supply chain, production planning or related field.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to stand, stoop and lift to 40 lbs.
- May have prolonged periods sitting at a desk or walking around the plant
