JOB SUMMARY

The Production Manager supports the development of the plant’s strategy to meet the manufacturing goals.  Develops and manages short- and long-term business plan objectives, address operating costs and utilization of personnel and assets required to establish and sustain manufacturing efforts.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Responsible for total operation of the applicable business unit including personnel, machines, equipment, and all necessary support systems for manufacturing processes.
  • Plan and direct production activities and establish production goals and priorities to support effective operations, cost factors, and timely deliveries.
  • Prepare production status reports: sales dollars, schedule hours, delivery performance, scrap calculations, etc.
  • Responsible for the direction of the departments within the site while considering production schedules, quality standards, continuous improvement, and cost standards.
  • Oversees and directs the activities of the site leaders, lead operators, and engineers.
  • Production scheduling: including review/approve production orders, expedite for delivery, schedule approved orders for production by machine.
  • Coordinate production activities with purchasing, maintenance, and quality control to obtain optimum production.
  • Advise management of changes affecting production schedules or manpower requirements.
  • Oversees and indirectly supervises production personnel.
  • Develops departmental goals and specific objectives with the site leaders.
  • Performs daily walk-through reviews of the applicable work centers: developing production supervisor’s ability to review production schedules and assigned priorities based on the master planning schedule and evaluating departmental housekeeping.
  • Observes and evaluates the progress toward departmental goals within the production supervisor’s area by measuring continuous improvement of the following: production cost, quality of product, safety and work procedures, individual performance, housekeeping standards, and preventative maintenance programs.
  • Drives continuous improvement activity through the collection and analysis of data and develops corrective actions that reduce waste and support key company objectives.
  • Plans manning levels required to meet production requirements with the production supervisor; requisitions new and replacement personnel, approves new hires, recommends dismissals, and processes transfer with Human Resources Department.
  • Maintains corporate goal flow-down methods and training procedures necessary to ensure total process control with documentation throughout the site.
  • Assists in development of all new training and development programs to assure employee and product quality.
  • Oversees continuous improvement and regulatory standards for conformance and accuracy.
  • Participates in and supports Environmental, Health and Safety programs.
  • Works in coordination with Quality Engineer and other staff regarding product development and process improvements.

  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and employee development skills.
  • Ability to motivate personnel in an empowered work team environment and be able to lead and hold accountable different levels of personnel from hourly team members to engineers.
  • Ability to independently solve problems and make recommendations. Proactive approach in completing tasks and projects.
  • Advanced level project management skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail required.
  • Excellent follow-up skills.
  • Ability to multitask with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to create, understand, and make decisions based on business unit financials and metrics.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE 

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree in either management or engineering is preferred.
  • Previous management/supervision experience in manufacturing required.
  • Demonstrated proven experience in lean manufacturing, as well as knowledge of regulatory standards, strongly preferred.
  • CNC machining, programming, or manufacturing engineering experience preferred.
  • Proven experience in driving organizational change.
  • Experience in leading process improvement activities, including experience in improving efficiencies and increasing production output. 

 PHYSICAL REQUIREMNTS 

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required throughout the workday to stand; walk; sit; use hands to handle objects; reach with hands and arms; stoop; talk or hear. 
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision and may also include color vision; depth perception; and the ability to see print in various sizes and formats. 
  • May be regularly required to pull and push up to 15 pounds and occasionally lift boxes up to 25 pounds.
