This is a critical leadership role within a fast-paced and evolving fintech environment, requiring a strong understanding of banking regulations, accounting principles, and technological advancements.
Responsibilities
- Financial Reporting: Prepare accurate and compliant monthly financial statements in accordance with GAAP and preparation of the annual report and disclosures.
- Regulatory Reporting: Preparation of the regulatory Call Report in accordance with regulatory requirements and other regulatory reporting as required.
- Accounting Operations: Manage all accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, bank accounts and fixed assets.
- Accounting Systems: Manage accounting systems including the identification of accounting system needs and lead the design and implementation of new accounting systems.
- Technology Integration: Collaborate with technology teams to optimize accounting systems and processes, leveraging automation and other fintech solutions.
- Internal Controls: Develop, implement, and maintain a robust system of internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure the accuracy and reliability of financial information.
- Policies and Procedures: Develop and maintain policies and procedures over accounting processes.
- GAAP and Regulatory Compliance: Stay abreast of and ensure compliance with all applicable banking regulations, accounting standards, and tax laws including analysis, documentation and implementation of new standards and/or requirements.
- Financial Analysis: Provide insightful financial analysis, including variance analysis, trend analysis, and key performance indicators (KPIs), to support management decision-making.
- Audit Management: Manage relationships with external auditors and oversee the annual audit process.
- Tax
- Compliance: Oversee the preparation and filing of all federal, state, and local tax returns. Prepare and file 1099 information returns.
- Team Leadership: Build, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team.
- Ad Hoc Projects: Participate in and lead ad hoc financial projects as required.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA certification is preferred.
- Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive accounting experience, with significant experience in the banking, financial services, or payments industry, preferably within a fintech environment.
- Strong understanding of GAAP, regulatory reporting requirements for banks, and internal control frameworks.
- Proven ability to design and implement accounting systems.
- Proven ability to develop and implement accounting policies and procedures.
- Experience managing external audits.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong leadership and team management abilities.
- Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems. Experience with fintech platforms and automation tools is highly desirable.
- Excellent communication (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate financial information to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic, and rapidly changing environment.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy and integrity.
- Master's degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Experience with cloud-based accounting systems.
