Job Description
The Department of Fine & Performing Arts seeks to establish a pool of qualified applicants for future, part-time Adjunct Faculty appointments in Mariachi coaching mariachi groups and directing the Mariachi Internacional mariachi ensemble. Successful applicants may teach up to six (6) semester credit hours within the required discipline at on-campus sites or online as dictated by student demand, hold office hours, and assist students as needed. It would also be expected from the mariachi director to accompany the university’s ensemble(s) to festivals and competitions and be open to collaborating with visiting professional mariachi groups.
Education And Experience
- An earned master’s degree in music.
- Previous coaching of mariachi groups at the regional/competitive level.
- Prior performance or active experience as a professional mariachi musician.
- Ability to coach and mentor undergraduate college music students in the mariachi ensemble(s).
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally, orally and in writing.
- Ability to collaborate with colleagues in the Department of Fine and Performing Arts, as well as the general public.
- Ability to interact effectively and professionally with students and the general public.
- Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks.
- Ability to work under stress and with pressing timelines.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- The above job duties may not be performed in every Adjunct Faculty position and might not include all related duties that may be performed.
- Additional courses may be assigned according to the individual’s expertise and departmental needs.
- Adjunct Faculty positions are temporary appointments, assigned per semester and on an as-needed basis.
- These temporary appointments are for the Spring 2025 semester and/or any applicable Spring 2025 Sub-terms.
