Environmental Specialist
We are seeking an experienced Environmental Specialist to support environmental compliance, permitting, and sustainability efforts on large-scale transportation and infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in environmental regulations, permitting processes, and construction oversight to ensure adherence to federal, state, and local environmental requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement site-specific environmental procedures and plans to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Monitor and assess the Design-Builder’s adherence to environmental regulations, contractual requirements, and best practices.
- Conduct environmental sampling and data collection for air, soil, water, and other materials for scientific analysis.
- Manage compliance documentation, including federal and state environmental approvals and permits.
- Liaise with regulatory agencies, including federal and New York State entities, to facilitate permitting and compliance processes.
- Identify and mitigate environmental risks through proactive monitoring and corrective actions.
- Oversee hazardous materials management, including asbestos and lead testing, abatement procedures, and waste disposal.
- Support sustainability initiatives, waste reduction strategies, and best environmental practices in project execution.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor’s or Graduate degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Technology, or a related field. Equivalent of 8 years in a similar role may be considered.
- Experience: Demonstrated experience in environmental compliance, permitting, design, and construction management for large-scale transportation or infrastructure projects.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Strong understanding of federal and New York State environmental regulations and permitting processes. Experience working with NYCT, NYCDEP, and other regulatory agencies.
- Certifications & Training:
- NYSDOL Asbestos Supervisor Certification
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Training
- OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER Certification
- Lead Abatement Certification (SSPC C5 or C3)
- NYCT Track Safety Training
- Preferred Certifications:
- NACE Certification
- Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
- NYC DEP Certified Asbestos Investigator
- NYS/EPA Certified Lead Risk Assessor/Inspector
- NYS DOL/EPA AHERA Inspector, Project Monitor and Air Sampling Technician
