We are a mid-sized trucking company specializing in Over the Road Transportation across 49 states and Canada. We're currently seeking an experienced, self-motivated Safety Manager known for our commitment to safety, efficient operations, and transparent business practices. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in safety management within the transportation industry.
This is not a remote position. The role is based out of our Lombard, Illinois office.
Responsibilities:
Safety and Compliance Management:
Develop and implement fleet safety strategies to minimize incidents and optimize operations.
Promote safety awareness and education among drivers to prevent accidents.
Provide driver training, hazmat coaching, and follow up on driver performance scores.
Ensure strict compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including FMCSA, DOT, CSA, HOS, and ELD.
Conduct safety meetings, audits, and inspections for compliance and performance evaluation.
Respond to law enforcement communications.
Oversee Weight Station Vehicle Inspections.
Monitor CSA scores and proactively challenge DataQs.
Ensure a drug-free workplace.
Conduct daily log book auditing.
- Incident and Claims Management:
Manage incidents involving insurance and brokers efficiently.
Ensure claims are filed and closed in a timely fashion.
Oversee insurance renewals and adjustments for drivers and units.
File monthly insurance reports, if necessary.
- Documentation and Reporting:
Organize and keep up-to-date Driver Qualification (DQ) and maintenance files.
File IFTA, UCR, IRP, State-per-Mile, OverSize, Canada, and Hazmat permits.
Screen potential drivers, including pre-employment verifications, PSP, and MVRs.
Process titles at the local DMV.
Open and scan weekly TripPaks with PODs.
- Asset and Resource Management:
Manage fuel cards, PrePass, Bestpass, GPS, and tablets accounts.
Track assets.
Monitor fuel consumption.
- Driver and Recruitment Management
Assist in driver recruitment.
Schedule drug testing.
Requirements:
Minimum of 5 years of experience in a safety management role within the transportation or logistics industry.
Team player with a strong willingness to assist others and collaborate with different departments.
Experience with ELD, HOS, and FMCSA Regulations.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with all levels of internal as well as external.
Strong supervisory skills and the ability to guide others to achieve goals and objectives.
Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines.
Ability to train on policies, procedures, and practices; have knowledge of effective training concepts.
Strong work ethic with a professional, positive attitude.
Have creative problem-solving skills and the ability to evaluate multiple solutions to make sound decisions.
Ability to work independently, as a team, and as the team leader.
Bachelor’s degree; further education or certifications in safety or accounting is a plus.
Working Hours:
Monday to Friday, 0800-1700. Our support team is available for nights and weekends to ensure continuous operations.
