About the role and team

As an IT Support and Cloud Development Intern, you will be a valued and trusted member of the NCDMM team, reporting to the IT Infrastructure & Facilities Manager. You will help with IT-related tasks, specifically being responsible for helping users with day-to-day computer and software issues, as well as being highly involved in strengthening our Cyber Security Posture.

Responsibilities of the role include:

IT Support and Infrastructure

·         Help Secure LAN, WAN & Cloud Infrastructure – Assist in securing local networks, wide-area networks, and cloud infrastructure by implementing security best practices, monitoring traffic, and ensuring compliance with IT security policies.

·         Work with Azure Endpoint Manager and the Azure Security & Compliance Center – Support the administration of Azure Endpoint Manager for device security, software updates, and policy enforcement, while assisting in the monitoring and reporting of security compliance through Azure Security & Compliance Center.

·         Working with Azure Cloud Services and Azure Active Directory – Help manage Azure Active Directory (AAD) for identity and access control, including configuring user roles, permissions, and authentication policies across the organization.

·         SharePoint Site Administration – Assist in the management of SharePoint sites, including setting up document libraries, managing permissions, and ensuring proper content organization for collaboration.

·         Helping Set Up New Hardware – Support the setup and configuration of new hardware such as laptops, desktops, printers, and networking devices, ensuring proper integration with company IT systems.

·         General Help Desk Support – Provide technical assistance to employees by troubleshooting hardware, software, and network-related issues, escalating complex issues to senior IT staff when necessary.

·         Website Content Development – Assist in creating, editing, and updating website content, ensuring alignment with company branding and messaging.

·         Website Management, Maintenance, and Administration – Support the ongoing maintenance of the company website by updating plugins, ensuring uptime, optimizing for performance, and managing security measures.

·         Documentation & Process Improvement – Document IT processes, troubleshooting steps, and best practices to create a knowledge base for future reference and improve overall efficiency.

Cloud Deployment and Support

·         Assist in AWS Cloud Deployments – Support the deployment of cloud-based applications and services on AWS, including EC2, S3, Lambda, and RDS. 

·         Monitor and Optimize Cloud Resources – Assist in monitoring AWS services for performance, cost optimization, and security compliance using tools like CloudWatch and AWS Cost Explorer. 

·         Troubleshooting & Debugging – Help investigate and resolve cloud infrastructure issues, working closely with the development and operations teams. 

·         Security & Compliance Support – Learn and implement best practices for AWS security, including IAM policies, encryption, and network security configurations. 

·         Siemens Software Deployment – Assist in deploying and configuring Siemens applications within AWS, including using AWS AppStream to virtualize and stream Siemens software to end users. 

·         AppStream 2.0 Configuration & Management – Support the setup, scaling, and management of AWS AppStream 2.0, including user access, security policies, and performance optimization.

·         Testing & User Experience Optimization – Conduct testing and troubleshooting to ensure Siemens software runs efficiently in AppStream, adjusting for latency, graphics performance, and user experience. 

·         Documentation & Process Improvement – Document cloud deployment procedures, best practices, troubleshooting guides to improve operational efficiency and proposing improvements and new solutions for cloud deployments. 

On a typical day, you might:

·         Setup a new SharePoint Collaboration Site, invite members and troubleshoot any issues

·         Help a user setup a private channel in Microsoft Teams

·         Add new custom entities to Microsoft Dynamics

·         Add an alias to a users email in Exchange or create a new shared mailbox

·         Deploy AWS Landing Zone or Watch Tower

·         Create a license server and update software license files

·         Help user quarantine detected malware on their machine

·         Help define application requirements for direct projects

·         Work with the VP and COO to define website changes and implement them using WordPress

About our ideal candidate:

·         You maintain a 3.0 GPA

·         You’re a Freshmen, Sophomore, or Junior

·         You’re majors are Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or Information Systems

·         You have excellent oral and written communication skills

·         You are a quick learner

·         You would be proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint

·         You would have experience with Microsoft SharePoint, Dynamics, Teams, AWS, Active Directory, Cyber Security

·         You have a passion for computers, IT and cloud deployment

·         You have experience or knowledge of general website administration
