What are the responsibilities and job description for the Gift Shop Assistant, Seasonal position at National Shrine of Saint Kateri Tekakwitha?
Seasonal, part-time/full-time up to 30-40 hours/week, Monday through Friday, May through October.
The Saint Kateri Tekakwitha National Shrine and Historic Site seeks a personable and outgoing individual to join our team. This person will provide support for full-time staff, assisting at the gift shop. Position is ideal for a retired individual or a student. Salary range is $16 to 18/hour.
Duties include:
- Answer gift shop telephone;
- Using Square (training and supervision provided), accept cash and credit cards, record sales and issue receipts for items purchased;
- Field questions about Saint Kateri, local Native culture, and the Shrine (training provided);
- Coordinate with Shrine colleagues to greet visitors and tour groups; and,
- Assist Shrine team with special events as requested and as assistant’s schedule allows.
Skills/requirements: Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to engage and interact in a manner that puts visitors to the Shrine and gift shop at their ease by creating a welcoming atmosphere. Must be comfortable engaging with religious and lay persons, Native American/First Nations peoples, people of all faiths and backgrounds. Must provide a satisfactory background screening and attend a training pertinent to engaging with the public.
