As a 501(c)(3), NSC currently has 100 full-time and part-time employees. Our revenue mix includes public grants and contracts, foundation grants, individual donations, fees for service, corporate sponsorships, and earned revenue. Headquartered in Center City, Philadelphia, PA, we are currently operating a hybrid remote office schedule.

Position Summary
The Case Manager will work with Nationalities Service Center (NSC) Family Literacy Team to support the focus of Early Literacy and Active Parenting for refugees and immigrants in the Philadelphia area.
The Family Literacy Program aims to work with families with children between the ages of 0-8. The primary goal is to help immigrant/refugee parents improve their parenting and literacy skills and to assist them in promoting their children’s education development. The program will comprise of three components: English classes, parent enrichment classes, and interactive literacy activities.
The Case Manager will serve NSC’s clients in a culturally and linguistically appropriate, polite, and professional manner. This individual will provide case management duties to all immigrant and refugee clients enrolled in the program.
The Case Manager has internal contacts with the entire administrative staff and external contact with clients, visitors, representatives of other social services agencies, and the community. This position has access to sensitive NSC and client information and is expected to handle such information with integrity and professionalism. This position is expected to represent NSC in a professional manner.
The Case Manager will report directly to the Family Literacy Coordinator and participate in team and department activities as necessary which include a weekly staff meeting and other on/off-site activities.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide case management services with the focus of supporting families through Family Literacy.
- Assist families with their child's school enrollment process.
- Responsible for file maintenance, including updating case management systems, reporting databases, and physical files; maintain confidentiality of client information; and
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Responsible for assisting clients with online tools such as Zoom, WhatsApp and Email.
- Actively participate in weekly case meetings and other department, agency, community, and provider meetings, as needed.
- When necessary, travel to other geographic locations to assist clients who are in crises or require in-person support.
- Responsible for reporting on extended case management activities and accomplishments;
- Conduct outreach through participation in outside events and distribution of materials, as needed.
- Connect clients to resources available in-house or in the community; When and/if access to relevant resources are not available, identify new resources and/or partners that offer support, ease transition and facilitate successful integration (i.e. capacity building re: specific needs);
Required Skills and Experiences
- 1 years of experience working within the refugee and immigrant community. Bilingual skills not required but preferred in the following languages: Dari, Pashto, Ukrainian, Haitian Creole or Arabic. Must also be fluent in oral, written and reading of the English language.
- Some college or a BA/BS degree from an accredited college or university in a related field of study.
- Basic understanding of NSC’s mission, vision, values, programs and services, and strategic plan.
- Knowledge of legal and political issues, and community resources and benefits that impact and/or benefit the targeted client needs.
- Possesses strong interpersonal skills as demonstrated by compassionate, courteous, cordial, cooperative, and professional interaction with diverse groups of co-workers, external business partners, and the community.
- Ability to effectively use standard office equipment.
- Ability to operate a computer and use a variety of common software programs including Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, and customized databases.
- Adheres to all NSC and departmental policies and procedures and attends all NSC in-services.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and effectively communicate with individuals and groups.
- Knowledge of basic client management procedures for determining eligibility, assessing needs, identifying resources, making referrals, following up, and documenting client interactions and proactively supporting client’s pursuit of goals.
- Ability to effectively interview and engage a client in appropriate programming.
- Ability to work in a team structure – demonstrating ability to collaborate and contribute to the team’s work.
- Valid drivers' license with access to reliable transportation or eligible for shared auto program.

- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

- Working in the office is required in the NE Hub location as well as offsite travel when necessary. NSC is currently operating on a hybrid remote/office schedule.

LOCATION AND HOURS: This is a part-time 30 hours per week in-person position based in our Northeast Hub office with the potential for hybrid work as team needs allow. Our regular hours are Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. We have COVID-19 safety protocols in place, and we revisit and update them in accordance with city, state, and federal guidelines.
COMPENSATION: The salary is $23 per hour commensurate with experience.
