NAYA Family Center seeks a dedicated and experienced development professional to serve as our Development and Communications Director, leading a team of six development and communications staff and serving on NAYA’s leadership team. This is a robust and important leadership role at NAYA, reporting to the CEO.

NAYA has a large and involved community and a history of successful event-based fundraising. From this strong foundation, the Development and Communications Director will grow our individual giving programs, including major gifts and legacy giving.

Starting salary is $120,000 to $140,000 / year.

Who You Are

  • You are a fundraising professional with at least five years of experience in development. CFRE (Certified Fundraising Executive) certification is preferred but not required.
  • You have experience leading and mentoring a high-performing team.
  • Ideally, you have knowledge of Native American history, culture and the local urban Native community.
  • You have experience with major gifts, legacy gifts, corporate giving and foundation grants.
  • Ideally, you have experience with capital campaigns of at least $3M.
  • You are a skilled writer and creative storyteller.
  • You have strong events planning experience. You enjoy planning and attending fundraising events.
  • You are a detail-oriented person by nature and you know that the success of events depends on the details.
  • You are proficient in fundraising technologies including donor management systems (e.g. Raiser’s Edge), event platforms (e.g. Greater Giving) and communication tools (e.g. Microsoft Suite, Adobe Suite, WordPress, Mailchimp, and Canva)
  • You hold a Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, communications, Native American studies or other related field, or have an equivalent combination of education and experience.

What You'll Do

  • Provide strong and supportive leadership to a team of six communications and development staff.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation and accountability in the Development and Communications Department.
  • Develop and execute fundraising strategies that exceed our $1.5M annual goal.
  • Expand corporate and individual giving, including major gifts, legacy giving and our monthly donor program.
  • Execute our two major fundraising events, NAYA Gala and Many Nations Academy Student Showcase.
  • Shape NAYA’s external communications including the NAYA website, social media, newsletters, videos and other print materials.
  • Serve as NAYA’s primary media liaison, writing press releases and conducting interviews.
  • Lead the Board of Directors’ Fundraising Committee, engaging Board members in donor cultivation and relationship building.
  • Evaluate and refine fundraising outcomes using data-driven strategies.
  • Partner with the CEO and CFO to forecast revenue and monitor progress.
  • Serve and contribute as a member of the NAYA Leadership Team.
