WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR IN THIS ROLE    


The Assistant Quality Manager will assist the department in monitoring production and product quality to ensure the product meets customer specifications. This role requires a strong presence on the production floor (60%) to conduct investigations, perform root cause analyses, and address day-to-day quality concerns in real-time. The Assistant Quality Manager will work closely with all departments to ensure consistent, safe, and high-quality products while responding to customer and sales inquiries regarding product issues. Additionally, this role involves reviewing quality systems, supporting program development, and contributing to special projects as needed. 


  • Maintain a 60% on-the-floor presence to conduct real-time investigations, address quality concerns, and proactively identify potential issues.
  • Conduct thorough root cause analyses for deviations, complaints, and quality issues, implementing corrective and preventive actions.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with GMP, HACCP, and other Quality and Food Safety System requirements.
  • Enforce quality assurance policies and government requirements to maintain product integrity.
  • Monitor and audit production procedures, including verification of code dates, scales, specifications, plant GMPs, and documentation.
  • Investigate quality-related incidents on the production floor and implement corrective actions in collaboration with relevant teams.
  • Review analytical and microbiological testing results of raw ingredients, finished products, process water, and plant equipment.
  • Coordinate audit findings with QA, Sanitation, Maintenance, and Operations teams to complete corrective and preventive action plans.
  • Review daily quality reports and records, analyzing trends to drive continuous improvement.
  • Prepare product and process quality reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information.Oversee operation, calibration, and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
  • Compare test results to quality specifications and notify quality and production managers when discrepancies arise.
  • Monitor and analyze trends in quality data, escalate critical issues, and ensure timely resolution.
  • Train and supervise QA technicians to ensure consistent and reliable quality and microbial analysis.
  • Respond to sales inquiries and customer concerns regarding product quality, providing detailed explanations and resolutions.
  • Assist sales with customer samples, certificates of analysis (COA), and product inquiries.
  • Address customer complaints, prepare weekly and monthly reports, and conducting third-party audits.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall quality assurance function.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR   

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent from a four-year college or university, OR three to five years of equivalent related experience (preferably in a food, beverage, pharmaceutical, or chemical industry); or an equivalent combination of both education and experience
  • Experience must include at least two years of supervision experience in a production environment.
  • Valid Driver License and clean driving record.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to understand and apply moderately complex mathematical concepts, to include managing financial data and production reports
  • Must possess a track record of successful, continuous improvement initiatives and results.
  • Strong leadership, facilitation, motivation and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to resolve conflict situations
  • Excellent communication skills, which will be demonstrated in constant daily communication to Supervisors, peers and reports.  Must be able to effectively prepare and present information
  • Must be able to work flexible shifts, weekend and overtime as business demands
  • Proficient in computer software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Five years in Quality Assurance in the fresh produce or food-processing environment
  • HACCP, SQF and Better Process Control School training certificates desired
  • Bilingual 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Operate office equipment requires repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard. 
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time in an upright position walking on both even and uneven surfaces 
  • Ability to ascend and descend ladders, scaffolding, using 3-point contact on a regular basis 
  • Ability to stoop, crouch, and kneel on a regular basis 
  • Environmental exposure- hot/humid conditions (95 ° or above).
  • Environmental exposure- cold/wet conditions (40 ° or below)
  • Material exposure – moving mechanical parts
  • Occasional exposure to environmental factors such as fumes, airborne particles, and vibrations 
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and/or carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to use hands and arms to grasp, manipulate, and handle objects in one position for an extended period of time.
  • Able to work in loud noise when conducting plant monitoring and inspections 

HOURS & WORKDAYS:

1st Shift – 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM; Overtime, Weekends, and Holidays may be mandatory based on business needs. Rotating workday/time off schedules may be mandatory depending on department/business needs as well.
