WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR IN THIS ROLE

  • Learn about the Food and Beverage manufacturing industry. 
  • Opportunity to work with multiple technical departments in manufacturing such as Electrical, Refrigeration, Automation, Maintenance, and Engineering to execute high impact projects. 
  • Assist with research on new and existing projects. 
  • Develop process flow diagrams and block diagrams. 
  • Develop utility matrixes and system mass balances. 
  • Gain exposure to industrial size manufacturing equipment 
  • Gain exposure to AutoCAD and Inventor Design software tools 
  • Receive intellectual and creative opportunities to tackle a problem and develop your own proposed solution. 
  • Support major decision making. 
  • Attend department meetings and develop action plans based on feedback. 
  • Learn to collaborate and communicate across all levels of the organization. 
  • Create a presentation on your internship experience, projects, and outcomes and present it to department leadership.

PROJECT #1: BOLTHOUSE FOOD PUMP CHEMISTRY CONTROL

SCOPE 

  • Develop a water balance flow diagram for the food pump closed loops in NSC 
  • Pumping system sizing 
  • Water filtration technology research 
  • Work with vendors for proof-of-concept testing 
  • Water filtration design options 
  • Develop detailed scope of project 
  • Develop detailed budget for project 


ROLE 

  • Intern – Project Engineer  


END GOAL 

  • Help Bolthouse Fresh Foods improve the water quality of food pumping systems. 
  • Learn to apply fluid dynamics in relation to hydro pumping applications. 
  • Gain engineering experience in a food manufacturing industry. 

 

PROJECT #2: BOLTHOUSE CARROT FIBER LINE CAPACITY MODEL

SCOPE 

  • Develop a product mass balance flow diagram for the carrot fiber product line.  
  • Equipment capacity validation 
  • New fiber equipment testing & validation. 
  • Work with vendors for proof-of-concept testing 
  • Equipment layout design options 
  • Develop detailed scope of project. 
  • Develop detailed budget for project. 


ROLE 

  • Intern – Project Engineer  


END GOAL 

  • Help Bolthouse develop a capacity model for the Fiber Plant to identify potential bottle neck for volume expansion projects.   
  • Learn to apply thermodynamics and heat transfer fundamentals in relation to carrot fiber production. 
  • Gain engineering experience in a food manufacturing industry 

 

PROJECT #3: BOLTHOUSE CELLO PACKAGING AUTOMATION 

SCOPE 

  • Evaluate best in class technology in packaging automation. 
  • Equipment testing & validation. 
  • Work hand in hand with vendors to perform a proof-of-concept test in production like environment. 
  • Equipment layout design options 
  • Develop detailed scope of project. 
  • Develop detailed budget for project. 


ROLE 

  • Intern – Project Engineer  


END GOAL 

  • Help Bolthouse transition to a more state of the art automated packing house.   
  • Learn to apply mechanical engineering, electrical, and automation principles. 
  • Gain engineering experience in a food manufacturing industry


WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Minimum Qualifications:

  • You are available to work Fall Semester 2024 
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Ag, Packaging, or similar program  
  • Great communication and interpersonal skills  
  • Good Computer & analytical skills (Excel, Word, etc) 
  • Strong capabilities of working with people   
  • Proven technical problem solver and ability to manage competing priorities.  
  • Collaborative team-player with a “roll-up your sleeves” approach

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience with 3D drafting
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and under pressure with minimal supervision
  • Ability to multi-task and set priorities according to changing requirements
  • Ability to understand fabrication techniques and limitations, and design to accommodate maximum fabrication efficiency
  • Have good organizational, mathematical, and computer data entry skills
  • Work effectively in team-oriented environment
  • Ability to adapt to shifting priorities
  • Ability to peer review drawings
  • Ability to coach and mentor entry level drafters

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Second year plus students preferred.  


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Occasionally will be lifting up to 20-25 pounds. 
  • Must be able to climb ladders / stairs 
  • Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, kneel, and walk for an extended period of time 

HOURS & WORKDAYS:

1st Shift – Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM; Overtime, Weekends, and Holidays may be mandatory based on business needs. Rotating workday/time off schedules may be mandatory depending on department/business needs as well.
