Opportunity
New England Lab is seeking someone to fill an IT Support Specialist position that will aid the corporate and satellite offices. You will join a team-focused, fast-paced environment and will be integral in the daily operations. The ideal person will be a continuous learner in the area of technical service and knowledge, excited about improving processes, and ready to share this knowledge in a supportive and helpful way. This is a full-time, salary position reporting to the General Manager with standard business hours 8am 5pm M-F.
Role
The ideal person to fill the IT Support Specialist position will excel at providing both daily troubleshooting technical experience as well as have an interest in programming MS Excel based user interfaces (using Visual Basic for Applications). This position will be responsible for ongoing assistance concerning the use of computer hardware and software, including printing, Microsoft Office products, and various other applications. Responsible for maintaining hardware and software running on a Windows operating system, troubleshooting issues while supporting and analyzing each situation. This position will resolve internal technical problems and work cooperatively with team members and outside technical vendors.
You will work to research or provide the best solutions that resolve internal technical problems and improve processes.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Provide IT support to staff across multiple locations, ensuring efficient operation of all computer systems (hardware and software).
Help to maintain and administer computer networks and related computing environments
Manage and troubleshoot operating systems and software applications to resolve technical issues promptly.
Set up new user accounts and workstations as part of the onboarding process
Collaborate with the IT team to implement and enhance IT solutions.
Assist in the implementation of IT infrastructure projects to enhance security and operation capabilities
Diagnose, maintain and resolve hardware, software, or other network and system issues.
Possess a strong foundational understanding of enterprise IT security, optimizing access control in line with best practices and conducting user training on secure IT practices.
Replace defective components when necessary
Research new technology and provide recommendations for software and hardware upgrades
Provide internal training necessary for software proficiency and adoption of new programs
Able to support and trouble shoot audio/visual components in conference rooms and used in virtual meetings
Develop custom Excel-based user interfaces using Visual Basic for Applications
Respond to needs and questions of users in a friendly, courteous and respectful way
Skills and Competencies
Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in IT support or related role
Associates degree in computer science, Network Administration, IT, or related. BA/BS preferred
Experience troubleshooting Windows operating system
Demonstrated programming experience in one or more languages (e.g.: Visual Basic for Applications, C# or similar)
Experience with programming .NET ecosystems is a plus
Reliable and trustworthy when handling sensitive information
Strong problem-solving ability and analytical thinking
Strong ability to communicate through technical issues to the broader NEL team
Able to work creatively, calmly, flexibly, and under tight deadlines
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, small company environment
Ability to prioritize multiple projects and requests
Eager to learn and acquire new skills, both technical and otherwise
This is a stationary position involving constant operation of computers and other office machinery. Substantial repetitive motions of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers are required.Occasional needs to move inside the office to access file cabinets, copiers, and other office machinery.
