The Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) for Mobile & Community Crisis Stabilization Services provides immediate, on-site crisis intervention and stabilization to individuals experiencing acute mental health crises. This role involves working within the community to de-escalate crises, and connect individuals to appropriate services. The QMHP will also provide ongoing community stabilization services to help clients maintain stability following a crisis.
Responsibilities:
- Mobile Crisis Response: Respond to crises in various community settings, including homes, public places, and other community locations, delivering on-site crisis intervention and de-escalation services.
- Community Stabilization: Provide ongoing stabilization services to individuals following a crisis, assisting with the development of coping strategies and service planning to prevent further crises.
- Collaboration & Coordination: Work closely with law enforcement, medical personnel, community agencies, and family members to coordinate care and ensure smooth transitions to follow-up services, including hospitalization or outpatient care when necessary.
- Crisis Planning: Develop and implement individualized crisis stabilization plans, including safety planning and coordination with mental health clinicians or other providers for ongoing care.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate and timely records of all crisis interventions and stabilization services in compliance with DMAS, DBHDS, federal and state policies.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills required
- Participation in clinical supervision and staff meetings
- Referral & Resource Connection: Connect clients with appropriate community resources, such as outpatient mental health services, housing support, or substance use treatment, ensuring that necessary follow-up care is arranged.
- Crisis Prevention: Assist clients with identifying early warning signs of a mental health crisis and implementing strategies to reduce the risk of future crises.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or a human services related field.
- Must be registered as a QMHP-A (Qualified Mental Health Professional – Adult) in the state of Virginia.
- Mobile Crisis Regional Training is required for those seeking to provide mobile crisis stabilization
- Experience with community stabilization services is a plus.
- Strong crisis de-escalation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work under pressure in high-stress situations.
- Must be willing to travel throughout the community to respond to crises. Ability to work non-traditional hours, including nights and possible weekends, and holidays.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience working with mobile crisis teams or in community crisis stabilization.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care practices and crisis prevention strategies.
- Familiarity with community resources and services available in Virginia.
Working Conditions:
This position involves responding to crisis situations in community settings, requiring frequent travel and on-site work in potentially high-stress environments. The QMHP will work closely with other mental health professionals to ensure client safety and stabilization.
