The Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a full-time Postdoctoral Research Scientist position with the Department of Psychiatry at Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC) and the New York State Psychiatric Institute, New York, NY in the field of Molecular Neurobiology.
The Boldrini Lab (www.mauraboldrinilab.com) uses single cell and spatial multiomics approaches, in combination with whole genome sequencing, to study normal brain aging, Alzheimer's disease, depression, suicide, and COVID brain. Our focus is on brain plasticity and regeneration, and we strive to find molecular targets for new treatments for brain diseases. We are looking for highly motivated scientists who are interested in applying molecular biology and genomics to study the cellular and molecular basis of human brain disorders.
We strive to understand neuronal subtype-specific regulation, leveraging spatial and single cell genomic technologies. We are working to translate fundamental discoveries to RNA-based precision medicine for brain disorders with unmet medical needs.
The position requires understanding human brain anatomy, attention to detail, fast learning abilities, experience in wet and imaging lab techniques, data managing and excellent organizational and team building skills. Excellent oral, written and presentation skills in English and excellent organizational and team building skills are required.
The position involves teaching opportunities, working with graduate and undergraduate students, and great opportunities for publishing.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- The candidate is expected to perform:
- Single cell and spatial sequencing techniques and data analyses
- Validation using RNA Scope, multiplex immunofluorescence and immunohistochemistry, Western blotting and iPSC-based and/or animal models.
- Computational biology, big data genomics, and epigenomics analyses in human brain diseases.
- Wet lab and/or computational data analyses on transcriptome, proteome, and epigenome in human brain from subjects with neuropsychiatric illness and brain aging.
- Data analysis and interpretation and manuscripts preparation.
- Teaching and supervising graduate and undergraduate students.
- The postdoc is expected to be able to work on a flexible schedule, dependent on experiments and deadlines.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A PhD degree in molecular or cell biology, neurobiology, biochemistry, biomedical engineering, computational biology or other relevant fields.
- (2) years of experience with bioinformatic methods and database managing is necessary.
Preferred Qualifications:
- (2) years of experience in molecular biology, biochemistry, next generation sequencing methods.
- (2) years of experience with confocal microscopy and imaging lab, with iPSC and cell culture, with animal models, preferred
