About This Role

Newmont is looking for a strategic and influential leader to serve as our Head of External Relations and Social Performance for the LATAC Business Unit (BU). This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned executive with a passion for stakeholder engagement, ESG leadership and social performance.

In this critical role, you will drive the strategies that enhance our reputation, build trust with key stakeholders, and secure long-term social acceptance for our operations. You will be the architect of meaningful partnerships, working with governments, communities, and industry leaders to advance Newmont’s sustainability commitments while ensuring business success.

What You'll Do

• Business Unit Strategy: Create and execute the strategy for external relations, social performance, and stakeholder engagement.
• Building Relationships: Build and maintain strong relationships with government entities, regulators, NGOs, industry groups, and community leaders.
• Community Relation Programs: Ensure alignment with Newmont’s ESG commitments and business objectives.
• Stakeholder Engagement Strategy: Lead a proactive strategy, mapping key stakeholders and ensuring consistent messaging across the region.
• Media Relations and Communications: Ensure alignment with corporate branding and messaging.
• Manage Social Risks: Identify and mitigate social risk ensuring compliance with regulatory and sustainability requirements.
• Lead and Develop Others: Develop a high-performing team, fostering collaboration across multiple business functions.
  
  

What We're Looking For

• Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in Humanities, Economics, Political Science, Social Sciences, or a related field.
• A postgraduate degree (Master’s or MBA) is preferred.
  
  

• Experience:
• Extensive leadership experience in external relations, social performance, government affairs, and corporate communications in Latin America.
• Experience in the mining, natural resources, infrastructure, or related industries.
• Strong background in stakeholder engagement, ESG strategy, and sustainability initiatives.
• Proven ability to work with government agencies, regulators, NGOs, and industry groups.
  
  

• Knowledge & Technial Skills:
• Experience with growth strategies, technical acumen, indigenous affairs, sustainability strategies, principles, and organizational values.
• Track record of partnering with Country government authorities and elected representatives where appropriate.
• Demonstrated experience successfully working with Non-Government Organizations.
• Advanced level of proficiency in understanding emerging trends and analysis of risk and impact on country Business Unit.
• Advanced level of proficiency in developing business and government relationships and positioning to impact outcomes and positive perceptions of Newmont in country.
• Advanced level of proficiency in integrating multiple workstreams to develop a coordinated, balanced message for external stakeholders.
