Job description

Our veterinary technicians are empowered with many responsibilities. Client communication and education is a key part of the NSVH experience; knowledge of basic medical concepts, medications and procedures is essential for our employees. We can't wait to add an amazing new team member!
Technical responsibilities include:
- Blood draws, often performed in the exam room with the owners present
- IV catheter placement
- Patient restraint
- Intubation for anesthesia
- Anesthetic monitoring (EKG, pulse ox, temperature and blood pressure measurements for all anesthetized patients)
- Holding and positioning for radiographs
- Operation of diagnostic lab equipment (centrifuge, microscope, Catalyst chemistry analyzer, SNAP tests)
- Basic interpretation of urinalysis and ear cytology results
- Preparation of microscope slides using DiffQuick stain
- Filling prescriptions in our in-house pharmacy, and managing prescription requests through our online pharmacy
- Administration of IV, SQ and IM injections
- Conducting technician appointments (vaccine boosters, nail trims, anal gland expressions, blood draws)
- Knowledge of positioning for dental x-rays and prophylactic dental polishing/scaling is preferred but not required
Non-technical responsibilities include:
- Client communication and education, both on the phone and in person (Technicians must be friendly, outgoing, polite and very comfortable speaking with clients; personalized client interaction and education is one of the essential core values of NSVH)
- Calling clients to inform them of normal lab results
- Discharging post-surgical and post-dental patients to clients
- Answering phones as needed
- Scheduling appointments for clients as needed
- Maintaining cleanliness of hospital (sweeping, mopping, emptying trash, cleaning counters, sinks, windows and bathrooms)
- Contribution of relevant material/photos to NSVH social media accounts (Facebook and Instagram)
- Stocking exam rooms
- Utilizing Vetter practice management software to document phone calls, prescriptions and lab results as well as schedule appointments
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $22.00 - $24.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
