About Us :
We are a venture-backed, seed-stage B2B SaaS startup at the forefront of the Future of Work, with an established product in the market serving over 50 customers. This year we raised a fresh round of capital to bring a brand new AI product to market. We are looking for a VP of Engineering here in Utah to lead the development of this new product and our engineering org. We are a fast-paced startup focused on experimentation, solving really hard problems, and building something that is badly needed in our market. We are currently 12 people with 5 engineers.
The Role :
As the VP of Engineering, you are joining a startup from the ground up and working directly with our CEO as an executive. You will manage a VP of Product, and lead a team of 5 engineers. You will be responsible for all major architecture decisions, and will set the pace and direction for the engineering org. You will lead a small team, make crucial hiring decisions, and you will be responsible for the technical direction and strategy for the company. Given that this is an early stage company, you will also be hands-on-keyboard coding alongside the team.
As we build our AI capabilities, we will bring on a lead data scientist to the Eng team and you will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge LLM based products.

You are at heart a very solid engineer who likes to build and ship
You have a high threshold for quality, whether that’s reviewing PRs, hiring junior devs, or writing code - and understand that in startups, balancing quality with speed is necessary
Responsibilities :
Develop and implement the company's technical strategy and technical roadmap
Make architecture decisions to ensure a strong, stable, and scalable product
Partner with CEO and VP of Product to define, prioritize and realize product and technical roadmaps
Data management and analysis
Define high engineering standards and hold the team to them
Qualifications :
Since this is a hands-on-keyboard leadership role, we expect you to bring some experience with the technologies we are using today. However, as the VP of Engineering, you will be empowered to choose different technologies.
The best leader will be productive in all parts of the technology stack, including backend and front-end development
Preferred tech stack : Backend : Java, Spring Boot, Python, Hibernate, and REST APIs ; Frontend : Angular (or React), TypeScript, HTML5, and CSS3
Kubernetes experience is a plus
8 years as a full stack engineer
4 years managing an engineering team
Bachelor / Masters in CS
Experience working in B2B SaaS
Preferred : Experience at venture backed startup or scaleup
Preferred : Some recent experience with AI-assisted products that leverage LLMs
Preferred : Experience working with a data scientist
Significant experience in software architecture and personally building web based products from early-stage through to scaling
You’ve managed, mentored, and inspired a small team of engineers providing architectural guidance, code reviews, etc.
You’ve scaled a small engineering team to a larger, more complex one to meet customer demand
Deep knowledge of full-stack modern development practices (ex : DevOps, APIs)
Leadership abilities : Ability to motivate and guide a small team, even with limited resources
Entrepreneurial mindset : Passion for building a product from the ground up and willingness to take calculated risks.
Strong technical skills : Deep understanding of programming languages, software development methodologies, and cloud technologies
