Job Overview
Nexus Disposal is looking for an experienced, hands-on Shop Foreman to manage daily operations in our truck maintenance facility. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in diesel truck repair and team leadership. Experience with garbage/refuse trucks is a plus but not required. This position is key to maintaining the safety, reliability, and performance of our fleet.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Supervision & Leadership:
- Supervise and lead a team of mechanics, helpers, and parts runners.
- Assign jobs, ensure quality standards, and monitor productivity and safety.
- Provide training, mentorship, and performance feedback to shop staff.
- Fleet Maintenance & Repair Oversight:
- Oversee diagnostics, repairs, and preventive maintenance for diesel trucks.
- Identify and resolve issues involving engines, hydraulics, air brakes, electrical systems, and more.
- Ensure repairs are done accurately, efficiently, and within safety standards.
- Garbage Truck Repairs (a plus, not required):
- Experience working on garbage/refuse trucks such as front loaders, rear loaders, or roll-offs is a plus.
- Work may involve specialized hydraulic components, lift arms, compactors, and packer systems.
- Familiarity with brands like Mack, Peterbilt, Heil, or McNeilus is helpful but not required.
- Work Order & Recordkeeping:
- Create, assign, and track work orders with detailed documentation.
- Monitor technician hours and parts usage per job.
- Ensure all service records meet DOT and company requirements.
- Parts & Inventory Management:
- Order parts as needed and monitor stock levels.
- Coordinate with vendors for timely delivery and cost-effective sourcing.
- Ensure parts are correctly matched with repairs.
- Compliance & Safety:
- Maintain shop compliance with DOT, OSHA, and FMCSA regulations.
- Enforce company safety policies and procedures.
- Lead safety meetings and equipment checks regularly.
- Communication & Coordination:
- Work closely with dispatch and operations to prioritize truck availability.
- Provide regular updates on repair timelines and fleet status.
- Act as liaison between shop personnel and upper management.
- Shop Organization:
- Maintain a clean, well-organized work environment.
- Ensure shop tools and equipment are properly maintained.
Qualifications
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; technical certifications preferred.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is REQUIRED
- 5 years of hands-on diesel truck repair experience.
- 2 years of team lead or supervisory experience in a shop setting.
- Strong mechanical and diagnostic skills across all truck systems.
- Experience with garbage/refuse trucks is a plus but not required.
- Proficient with work order systems, inventory management, and repair documentation.
- Valid driver’s license required (CDL preferred but not required)
- Strong communication and leadership abilities.
