Plant Controller
Job Summary
The Plant Controller will lead the daily administration of the facility’s accounting and finance activities, providing support in financial statement preparation and financial analysis as well as continuous improvement of the accounting / finance function. The Plant Controller provides timely and accurate accounting and finance services while complying with GAAP and in alignment with Corporate requirements. The Controller will partner with multiple cross-functional teams, both within the business and company-wide. The Plant Controller will report directly to the CFO, with dotted-line reporting to the General Manager.
Job Responsibilities
- All financial activities within the plant.
- Conduct month and year end closing, ensuring all accounts are reconciled and balanced
- Ensure proper financial controls are in place and maintained according to GAAP.
- Partner with General Manager, providing sound business analytics and understanding of financials, with associated recommendations for ongoing improvement.
- Works closely with operations to ensure accurate and timely recording of all production costs and effective analysis of production variances.
- Develops the Plant Budget and provides thorough analysis of variances
- Provide sound analytics and recommendations as part of Sales, Inventory and Operations Planning (SIOP) discipline to ensure proactive decisions are made to maximize value across the organization
- Collaborate with site teams to explain results, collaborate on improvements, manage projects, identify inefficiencies, understand operations and lead development of complex analysis.
- Support the development of business justifications, including ROIs
- Control and reporting of fixed assets.
- Manages book and tax depreciation for fixed assets
- Responsible for Inventory controls, obsolete inventory, slow moving and proper valuation of each, utilizing the Plex ERP system
- Responsible for variance reporting (PPV, labor, scrap/tailings).
- Monitoring of standard costs, including burden rates.
- Responsible for Overhead analysis and establishing Overhead rates.
- Analyzes actual manufacturing costs and prepares periodic report comparing standard costs to actual production costs.
- Assist in the establishment of shop floor labor reporting and work with operations to establish run rates.
- Drive cycle counting process, driven by finance, to instill both operational improvements as well as financial risk management on a weekly basis.
- Support all financial related audits
- Preparation of production plans and product costing.
- Estimate product costs to support quoting activities
- Monitor and implement plant internal controls as necessary to ensure reporting integrity, safeguard company assets and identify risks.
- Identify and implement process improvements to more effectively utilize PLEX software.
- Ability to work safely and comply with all safety regulations.

Education / Skills
- Requires a Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting
- Minimum of 3-5 years of manufacturing cost accounting experience
- Demonstrate strong working knowledge of manufacturing processes and inventory management
- Comprehension of manufacturing financial transactions and reports
- Must have operational annual budget forecasting experience in manufacturing environment
- Skilled in gathering, managing and analyzing data.
- Demonstrate teamwork competencies in a multi-disciplinary manufacturing environment
- Advanced proficiency with MS Excel
- UKG & Plex a plus
