Safety Coordinator
Nippon Dynawave Packaging has an opening for a Safety Resource Coordinator. This position reports to the Safety Manager. This position provides leadership, coordination, and technical expertise in the areas of safety, health and security; establishing reliable methods for improving safety performance; effective training and training development; nourishing a culture in which safety is an overriding value and assuring compliance with regulatory compliance. The successful candidate will be a self-starter who enjoys the challenges of daily involvement with an operations and maintenance team.
Key Functions
- Role model safety leadership behaviors
- Partner with Safety Manager and Dept Managers to develop and implement sustainable safety systems focused on prediction and prevention
- Guide employees to mitigate hazards and improve safety performance
- Lead safety improvement projects
- Provide safety and health knowledge and expertise
- Support and develop team safety resources
- Actively participate in safety inspections and other audits
- Develop and implement effective risk reduction strategies
- Ensure regulatory, company policy and site safety and health requirements are met
- Be visible and an excellent safety resource to all levels of the organization
- Attend, support and participate in pre-shift safety meetings, central safety meetings, team meetings, etc
- Plan develop and implement safety training for new employee orientation and annual required programs.
- Industrial Hygiene Monitoring for noise, heat and airborne contaminants
- Demonstrated ability to achieve safety results through effective coaching
- Act as a back-up for the site Safety Manager
Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree or higher from an ABET accredited school in Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health, or Engineering OR 3 or more years of industrial Health and Safety experience.
- Proficient in Microsoft office (Excel, Word and email) and other software.
- Experience using 3rd party incident investigation software systems.
- Flexible work schedule as required
- Excellent organization, planning, prioritization and time management skills
- Excellent project management skills.
- Self-motivated, self-directed and professional
- Capable of delivering training to a group of hourly or salaried individuals.
About Nippon Dynawave Packaging in Longview, WA:
The Longview Liquid Packaging facility produces bleached paperboard used to make cartons and cups for liquids such as milk, juice, coffee, and sake. The facility employs about 500 people and produces 260,000 metric tons of paperboard each year -- the equivalent of 6 billion liter-sized milk cartons. Weyerhaeuser launched the Longview Liquid Packaging business in 1953 and operated the facility until its acquisition by Nippon Paper Industries (NPI).
The facility began a new era under NPI ownership on September 1, 2016, operating as Nippon Dynawave Packaging. As a long-time customer of Longview’s liquid packaging board, NPI brings a new level of understanding and commitment to the Liquid Packaging business, which bodes well for the future strength and success of the Longview facility.
