Summary:
The Surface Transportation Board (STB) is seeking an intermediate-level Applications Developer/Programmer to join our team. This role is critical in supporting the development, maintenance, and enhancement of the Uniform Railroad Costing System (URCS), a system utilized by the STB to estimate the variable costs of railroad movements. The successful candidate will work closely with other developers, analysts, and stakeholders to ensure the URCS operates efficiently and accurately.
Essential Job Functions:
- Design, develop, test, and implement software applications and modules for the URCS. Ensure that all code meets industry standards and is well-documented.
- Perform regular maintenance and updates on existing applications to enhance functionality, address bugs, and ensure compliance with current regulations.
- Analyze data related to railroad movements and costs. Develop algorithms and methodologies to improve the accuracy and efficiency of cost estimations.
- Work closely with team members, including other developers, business analysts, and stakeholders, to gather requirements and deliver high-quality software solutions.
- Provide technical support to end-users of the URCS. Troubleshoot and resolve any issues related to application performance and functionality.
- Perform other duties as needed.
- Necessary Skills and Knowledge:
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products (Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint).
Minimum Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in applications development or programming.
- Pass a background investigation.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Must have problem-solving skills, resourcefulness, organization skills, and initiative, communication.
- Knowledge of software development methodologies and best practices.
- Familiarity with data analysis and statistical methods.

Pay: $98,000.00 - $141,000.00 per year
