What are the responsibilities and job description for the Structural welder position at NJ TRANSIT?
- Read and interpret project plans, blueprints, and other written instructions and diagrams to perform task at hand.
- Clamp, hold, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind or bolt component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding.
- Produce welds that are 100% X-ray quality and demonstrate knowledge and skills in safe rigging practices.
- Walk over and work on top on fixed, overhead fixed and movable railroad bridges.
- Climb stairwells and ladders (with fall prevention equipment) to perform work.
- Demonstrate complete knowledge in welding, rigging, fabrication, and torching.
- Express knowledge of industrial safety and OSHA guidelines.
Education, Experience, and Qualifications :
- Qualified applicants MUST pass physical welding test AWS Bridge Welding Code for unlimited thickness in all positions.
- Must be a Certified Welder
- Work outdoors in all type of weather conditions, including confined spaces at various heights
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment
- Possess physical ability to use various types of hand and power tools
- Possess exceptional problem solving and team leadership skills
- Provide a valid Driver’s License and High School Diploma or GED
- Successfully pass the pre-screening process which includes a physical and drug test, employment verification, criminal history, and driving background checks
Physical Requirements :
Qualified applicants must have the ability to :
- Stoop, bend, crawl, balance, climb and kneel
- Wear protective equipment such as hardhat, safety glasses, and safety-toe boots
- Perform heavy lifting and carrying tasks with the weight of up to (50) fifty pounds
Work Location :
Port Morris, NJ; Various Structural Welders must be willing and able to travel to any of our NJ Transit locations as required.

Rate of pay :
The pay rates are tiered and are non-negotiable based on years and types of experience.
