The Maintenance Planner will be responsible for the effective execution of the maintenance work control processes. He/she will be responsible for the efficient and effective planning and/or scheduling of all resources to conduct maintenance activities in order to minimize downtime and maximize productivity. In order to fulfil these responsibilities, the Maintenance Planner is empowered to manage work priority, develop job plans, define parts and material, define crafts and skills and engage the proper resources to develop a safe, effective and efficient work plan. In addition, the Maintenance Planner provides the equipment-related expertise and technical guidance on improving Preventive Maintenance activities.

Responsibilities

  • Principle contact and liaison between the maintenance department and production control and production planning
  • Ensure the area, department or facility in which they are assigned receives maintenance service in a timely manner to ensure equipment availability and performance
  • Interact with the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to create work packages for implementation in the field
  • Review all planned work request from assigned area and determine validity and accuracy of information and engage the appropriate resources to set a preliminary priority
  • Reviews work request for accuracy and clarity: clear scope of work, realistic completion date, proper lead times, correct equipment identification, proper authorization, and discuss details with originator of the work order
  • Identifies work requiring engineering design and reviews them with maintenance engineers
  • Escalates issues to the Technical Manager for work which does not appear to be valid or costly
  • Review and analyze delays in schedule, expedite any work activities requiring work packages that delay schedules, and coordinate schedule changes needed to encompass unforeseen conditions
  • Ensure operations and maintenance work orders are in compliance with project procedures, assist in the determination of work priority, and establish workflow processes that support work management and operations goals
  • Periodically review work performed for attainment or obtainment of objectives, policy compliance and priorities, effective coordination, technical adequacy and responsiveness to established guidelines
  • Review the work to be performed and determine the best way to accomplish the work
  • Advise/consult with Leads, Supervisors, Originator, Production Supervisors, Production Controller and Planner and Stockman as necessary
  • Obtain and organize all information required for the technicians to perform the work: drawings, vendor manual, supplemental instructional materials, special procedures, and other file material which is appropriate. Supplement this information by preparing any additional sketches, drawings, diagrams, notes, or any instructional material which will clarify the work to be performed
  • Identifies and secures all parts and material required to complete the work by providing stores a Bill of Material for the work order and any special kitting instructions
  • Work with Stockman to manage spare part usage to maximize turns but minimize risk of using critical spares
  • Finalize the Maintenance resource schedule based on agreed plan with the Technical Manager
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Skills/Qualifications

  • Must be able to communicate effectively at various levels of the organization
  • Have adequate maintenance knowledge and skill to accurately estimate labor hours, material requirement and skills needed to complete a job
  • Must have a demonstrated ability to visualize and communicate the execution of work
  • Should have good written and verbal communications skills and have demonstrated the ability to be approachable and tactful
  • Good math skills and computer skills (Microsoft Office)
  • Demonstrated organizational and planning skills
  • Demonstrate ability to write and provide simple and accurate instructions
  • Demonstrate ability to read standard blueprints, machine and process drawings. Have the ability to sketch or redline existing drawings
  • Knowledge and understanding of the maintenance processes and proper use of the work order system, planning and scheduling and storeroom processes
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities or projects simultaneously and keep them progressing to completion
  • Works closely with Technical Manager, Production Supervision, Production planning, Maintenance Leads and Supervisors
  • Interfaces with Safety and Environmental resources for specific concerns
  • Demonstrated ability to accomplish goals in team based environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree from an accredited institute of higher learning preferred
  • Mechanical/electrical background is necessary. Apprenticeship program or technical school background is desirable
  • Minimum of three years related experience in Planning/Scheduling
  • Lean manufacturing knowledge/certification a plus
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • High Skill level in Excel
  • Maximo experience preferred
  • Experience with CMMS software (Maximo, MP2, SAP, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of root cause analysis, predictive and preventative maintenance systems
  • Project management experience
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. This position will not offer relocation or visa sponsorship

Physical Demands/Work Environment

  • Operates in both an office environment and manufacturing environment including indoor environmental conditions and noise
  • Must be able to continuously stand, hear, listen, talk, walk, bend, stoop, kneel or squat
  • Occasionally required to sit, use repetitive hand motion, pull, push and lift up to 20 pounds
