The North Adams Public Schools is seeking a Superintendent of Schools.
North Adams Public Schools serves approximately 1,250 students across three schools representing Prekindergarten through grade 12. Approximately 280 total staff including 125 professional educators are employed by the district, making
North Adams Public Schools one of the largest regional employers in northern Berkshire County.
PREFERRED CANDIDATE RESPONSIBILITIES : Provide leadership in the study and improvement of the curriculum and methods of instruction. Provide leadership for all staff in the development of their skills, knowledge and professional capacity using professional research and evidence based practices. Provide leadership in the evaluation of the total educational program.
Value collaboration and shared leadership within the school community and the community at-large.
Oversee the development and implementation of the budget to ensure that both funds and facilities
are used with greatest effectiveness and efficiency in supporting the educational vision and programming of the schools.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Licensed or eligible for licensure as a Superintendent of Schools in Massachusetts. Master’s degree required, Ph.D. or Ed.D. preferred. Minimum of 15 years in the field of education which may include instructional and school- and district-level
administrative experience. Successful experience as leader of schools and/or programs in education.
Job Goal:To administer and supervise the North Adams Public Schools, directly or through the proper delegation of authority, within the framework of the General Laws of the Commonwealth, the Regulations of the State Department of Education, the policies and rules of the North Adams Public Schools, and the terms of the collective bargaining agreements negotiated with all employee groups.
Supervision:Responsible to the school committee for the effective an efficient operation of the school system and to the state board of education for the compliance with laws of the commonwealth and regulations of the board. Responsible for total professional and non-professional staff of the school system. Advisory and service relationship with public and private agencies and organizations of the community.
Required:No person shall be appointed superintendent of schools unless he/she meets the certification requirements of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The school committee is at liberty to add qualifications above and beyond those required by the Commonwealth for certification.
Salary : $155,000 - $180,000
