What are the responsibilities and job description for the University Program Specialist II (Business Counselor / Small Business Specialist) position at North Carolina Central University?
Primary Purpose of Position
This individual provides counseling, training, research, and technical assistance services to small and midsize business owners and / or individuals and firms developing or expanding products, technologies, or markets. This person is responsible for one-on-one client counseling and for preparation time, as well as maintenance of confidential client records and program performance. Significant outreach is required within the center’s six-county service area. The counselor will also assist the design and delivery of training programs sponsored by the SBTDC. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities A broad general knowledge of the principals and practices of small business is required. The employee must have strong computer skills, particularly with regard to word processing, developing spreadsheets, and database management. A demonstrated ability to develop and analyze financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow) is imperative. Employee must have a working knowledge of techniques used in collecting and interpreting market.
Preferred – Master’s degree in business or other relevant field with two years of relevant work experience. In lieu of a Master’s degree, a Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of relevant work experience. Minimum Education / Experience Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or and equivalent combination of training and experience.
