About the Department
The Department of Applied Ecology integrates aspects of the broader fields of biology, ecology, genetics, toxicology, conservation, and living resource management into a focused unit that employs novel approaches to confront local problems and global challenges. The department engages in highly collaborative research, education, and extension efforts that offer direct, practical solutions to current challenges in environmental and human well-being.

Essential Job Duties
The program will take place in a community setting and involve directing and advancing the Agricultural Workers Digital Equity Initiative, funded by the National Institutes of Health via the NC Office of Rural Health.

We are seeking a Community-Engaged Research Program Manager who will preform the following duties:

Program Leadership & Research Coordination
  • Lead and manage the research component of a statewide intervention promoting health equity, funded by the National Institutes of Health’s Community Partnerships to Advance Science for Society research program.
  • Direct research coordination, including a complex statewide needs assessment and the development of a community-engaged intervention to address digital health and health equity for agricultural workers across NC.
  • Oversee a research team conducting listening sessions, engaging with agricultural workers, and collaborating with a statewide coalition.
  • Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate specific program components with limited supervision from principal investigators.


Community & Stakeholder Engagement
  • Work closely with community health workers, state agency officials, and researchers from NC State and Wake Forest University School of Medicine
  • Serve as the primary liaison for the NC Office of Rural Health’s Project Manager, ensuring alignment and communication between state and research team members.
  • Support undergraduate student researchers in community-engaged research projects.
  • Act as the point of contact for community-engaged research advisors at NC State and Wake Forest University.

Program Development & Administration
  • Plan, develop, and execute activities, protocols, and timelines for program implementation and evaluation in support of the Agricultural Workers Digital Equity Initiative.
  • Address system-level challenges among program partners.
  • Manage program budgets, track progress, and generate grant status reports.
  • Develop logic models for intervention mapping and oversee systematic screening, assessment, and rapid review processes.
  • Assist with qualitative data analysis.

Mentorship & Team Management
  • Mentor and supervise undergraduate students participating in the program.
  • Assign and monitor student work to ensure alignment with program goals and research activities

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Master’s degree or BS/BA and three years of work experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
  • Competency in Spanish reading, writing, and conversation.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Spanish.
  • Basic knowledge of community-engaged research principles, study design, and methods of data collection and analysis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in relevant field.
  • Competency in Spanish reading, writing, and conversation.
  • Prior experience working on a research project.
  • Professional communication skills with researchers and community partners.
  • Social and behavioral research experience, including field data collection, survey interviews, and community-based participatory research.
  • Training in principles of public health, informal science education, social work, or related field.
  • Completion of human research protection training.

  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Valid NC driver’s license within 60 days of hire, must be maintained.
