The Volunteer Coordination/Senior Health Insurance Counseling for Kansas (SHICK) Counselor is an information and referral professional who determines clients’ needs, answers Medicare questions, and assists with Medicare enrollments and insurance appeals especially during the Annual Enrollment Period from Oct. 15 to Dec. 7 while also providing assistance year around. The Volunteer Coordinator/SHICK Counselor is responsible for recruiting, coordinating and retaining SHICK volunteers and informational outreach activities in 18 counties in the NC-FH AAA service area.
RESPONSIBLITIES
1. Be a certified SHICK counselor and provide NC-FH AAA clients with Medicare information and assistance.
2. Become an Options Counselor: listen’s to people’s needs, inform seniors, people with disabilities and family caregivers about available services; makes referrals and follow-ups.
3. Maintain records of intakes, contacts, and services provided for NC-FH AAA Clients; provides timely data entry into appropriate data bases.
4. Collaborate with NC-FH AAA staff to plan, organize and carry out educational workshops and seminars to meet Agency goals; provides presentations to small groups at these workshops.
5. Collaborates with team to plan, organize and carry out SHICK training per the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services (KDADS) SHICK Program.
6. Collaborates with their Supervisor to conduct interviews with potential SHICK volunteers and maintain all required records for SHICK volunteers.
7. Periodically compile reports of program activities for the NC-FH AAA and the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services as required.
8. Collaborate with the Supervisor on other communications and events.
9. Collaborate with the Supervisor to write news stories for Keynotes, the agency’s tabloid.
10. Collaborate with the Supervisor to develop content for regular direct mail/email information targeted to agency volunteers and partner organizations.
11. Other duties as assigned.

6. Ability to maintain and secure confidential information.
7. Data Entry skills and proficiency at Microsoft Office.
8. Ability to work collaboratively with others to meet established goals.
9. Ability to positively engage volunteers and support regional Volunteer network.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
BA/BS in family/human services or related field. Experience in gerontology or human services preferred.
