Description & Details: The Forest Stewardship Specialist provides technical forest management assistance and support statewide to private forest landowners and partner agency staff through a partnership with USDA Forest Service State, Private, and Tribal Forestry. Work includes the sustainable management of windbreaks and other conservation tree plantings as well as native upland and riparian forests. Duties include both office and field responsibilities and require coordination, policy interpretation and individual initiative to resolve issues as they arise. This position is based in the Walhalla Field Office and requires travel and field work. The Forest Stewardship Specialist works within at the direction of the Forest Stewardship Manager to implement the North Dakota Forest Action Plan.
Work Schedule: 40 hours/week; 8 - 5 or similar, M - F with occasional evening and weekend
Advertised Salary: $45,825 DOE
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in forestry or natural resources-related field, or Associate’s degree in forestry or natural resources-related field plus 3 years of experience.
- Valid Driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry.
- Recent work experience in forestry, extension, soils, or conservation.
- Experience using ESRI GIS products.

- Familiar with tree identification and tree planting.
- Communicate concisely and professionally with various audiences.
- Engage in respectful/professional deliberation and discussion.
- Enter, organize, maintain, analyze, and summarize data using apps and software including GIS.
- Able to work without direct supervision, travel, stay overnight and work in semi-remote areas.
- Build productive relationships and work cooperatively with others within and across boundaries.
- Work outdoors in all types of weather and safely traverse uneven terrain.
- Work safely.
