What are the responsibilities and job description for the Ombudsman Coordinator position at Northeast Nebraska Area Agency on Aging?
Job Summary:
Responsible for developing and maintaining a local long-term care Ombudsman program that includes advocacy and mediation for residents of long-term care facilities.
Responsibilities:
1.Establish and maintain a professional working relationship with nursing home and assisted living facility management and staff to effectively advocate for residents.
2. Educate the public about the Ombudsman program through presentations on long term care facilities, residents’ rights, and the ombudsman roles and responsibilities.
3. Maintain records and data essential to the operation of the program in accordance with standards described in the ombudsman policies and procedures manual.
4. Identify, receive, investigate and work to resolve complaints regarding long-term care facilities.
5. Attend training, meetings and conferences related to program goals as determined necessary by the Executive Director.
6. Provide information to and visit residents.
7. Protect the confidentiality of all residents and complainants.
8. Provide technical support to develop resident and family councils.
9. Provide residents with regular and timely access to ombudsman services.
10. Assist residents to protect their rights and express a complaint pertaining to their health, safety, welfare, and rights within a facility.
11. Identify, investigate, and resolve complaints made by, or on behalf of, residents.
12. Seek administrative, legal, and other remedies to protect the health, safety, welfare, and rights of residents.
13. Recruit, screen, and interview potential volunteer Ombudsman advocate volunteers. Provide supervision and support to volunteers.
14. Identify nursing facilities willing to have a volunteer ombudsman advocate visit their facility.
15. Provide Ombudsman services in nursing facilities that do not have a volunteer ombudsman advocate available in their facility.
16. Prepare and submit required reports as required.
