JOB SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Maintenance & Collection System Manager and Maintenance Crew Leaders performs skilled labor supporting the installation, maintenance, operation and repair of the District’s wastewater collection system, pump stations and treatment facilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Performs general labor to install, repair and maintain water, storm water and sanitary sewer lines, including valves, fittings, fire hydrants and open channels.

2. Shovel material such as dirt or rock for extended periods and raise above shoulder level on occasion.

3. Performs general labor to repair damaged yards and landscapes, damaged asphalt and concrete streets, sidewalks and driveways.

4. Performs general labor associated with work zone and roadway traffic control.

5. Operates and performs minor maintenance to light and heavy equipment, power tools and motorized equipment.

6. Operates and performs minor maintenance on vehicles and equipment up to and including a Class "B" CDL size vehicle with air brakes.

7. Cleans gravity sewer collection system; operate jet truck and vactor trucks to flush collection system, open clogs in sewer mains, clean manholes and pump stations.

8. Performs snow removal activities.

9. Assists in operation of CCTV truck and equipment.

10. Operate heavy machinery to facilitate pump station repairs, cleaning, and efforts to improve system reliability.

11. Operates a variety of equipment, including mini skid steer, easement machine, jet truck and vactor truck.

12. Perform duties as an emergency on-call or stand-by operator / technician on a weekly rotating schedule.

13. Other duties assigned which may be deemed necessary by the Crew Leaders, Maintenance & Collection System Manager and/or Executive Director.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

· Must be a U.S. Citizen or lawfully authorized alien worker

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

· Knowledge of the principles and practices used in the construction and maintenance and repair of sewers, pump stations, streets and sidewalks.

· Knowledge of District policies and procedures.

· Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of wastewater pump stations, pumps, motors, pipe, valves, fittings and appurtenances.

· Skill in the completion of accurate and timely reports including, but not limited to, service call reports, work orders and purchase orders.

Education & Experience

· High School diploma or GED

License or Certification

· Must have a valid Class B CDL Driver’s license with tanker endorsement and without air brake restriction or obtain within 90 days.

  • Personal Computer, fax machine, telephone, copier, calculator and other office equipment.
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access)
  • District GIS Mapping System
  • Mini Skid Steer and attachments
  • Automobiles, pickup through Jet truck with automatic transmissions.
  • Portable 6” diesel pump & trash pumps
  • Hand tools, including but not limited to, picks, shovels, manhole hooks, etc.
  • Push pull sewer camera
  • SCADA System

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Sufficient clarity of hearing, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to discern verbal instructions, interact with the public and other employees, and discern audible warnings and alarms.
  • Sufficient visual acuity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to comprehend written work instructions, technical manuals and related diagrams, discern meters and gauges, discern visual-colored warnings and alarms, and maneuver through a wastewater treatment plant environment and over rough terrain.
  • Sufficient manual dexterity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to operate tools and equipment and make adjustments to equipment.
  • Sufficient body strength, mobility, flexibility, and stamina to maneuver through a wastewater treatment plant environment and over rough terrain to perform collection system, pump station, and treatment plant operation and maintenance oversight duties. Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs. and/or move or maneuver equipment up to 100 lbs.
  • Must be able to frequently climb and descend stairs, and occasionally climb and descend ladders.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Work duties are primarily performed in a field setting in a variety of weather conditions. May be exposed to heat, cold, noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, potentially hazardous chemicals, bloodborne pathogens, gasses or biohazards, electrical and radiant energy. May work in or with water on slippery or uneven surfaces; work in or inspect confined spaces; with machinery, heavy equipment or other moving objects; around or in pits, manholes and or heavy traffic; at heights on ladders and/or scaffolding. Possible exposure to insects, pets and other animals; hypodermic needles; and hydraulic energy. Depending on job tasks and location, safety and personal protective equipment may be required. Occasional overnight, out-of-town travel may also be required.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $21.19 - $28.24 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
