About the Opportunity
JOB SUMMARY
The Executive Director, Advancement (ED) reports to the Senior Associate Vice President of Development and collaborates with colleagues at various levels to support Northeastern's ambitious fundraising for global experiential higher education. The ED will provide structure and strategy to teams integral to this mission.
The ED will manage a portfolio of top prospects and oversee a small team of advancement professionals, working closely with colleagues to identify new major and principal gift prospects and develop comprehensive solicitation strategies. This role includes planning and executing the major gifts fundraising program for alumni, parents, and friends.
This position is Boston-based and not available for remote work.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree preferred
- 8 years of progressive major gifts fundraising experience, preferably in higher education
- Proven track record in soliciting and closing major and principal gifts
- Demonstrated ability to lead a team and manage a comprehensive program
- Data- and metric-driven mindset
- Strong interpersonal skills for building relationships with donors and internal constituents
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Ability to travel frequently (anticipated 60% of the time)
- High degree of independent initiative and innovation
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES
Develop a sound program to facilitate and increase principal and major giving.
The ED will identify, qualify, and visit a pool of approximately 80 prospects to assess their interest and capacity to make gifts, developing and managing relationships with these individuals.
Oversee and provide strategic prospect management and direction.
The ED will manage and support college / program / campus leadership prospects and develop solicitation strategies for them.
Management
The ED will manage a small team of individual gift fundraisers, providing guidance, feedback, coaching, and mentorship to promote their development.
