Northern Pines Mental Health Center is seeking a Retreat Center Director to join our Bay Lake Retreat Center team.
This is a full-time, year-round position located at our Bay Lake Retreat Center facility in Deerwood, MN. Typical hours include daytime/ weekday shifts. Occasional evenings and weekends will be required to meet programming needs. 24/7 presence at Bay Lake Retreat Center is required; housing will be provided. The Bay Lake Retreat Center Director will be responsible for all aspects of day-to-day operations, along with long-term planning of Bay Lake Island, in conjunction with the Executive Director.
Bay Lake Retreat Center is a 60-acre island on Bay Lake in Deerwood, MN. The island contains beautiful retreat facilities, including a refurbished lodge, camp-style dining hall, rusting cabins, and miles of walking trails. We are excited about the work happening at Bay Lake Retreat Center, where mental health meets whole-person wellness.
Essential Functions include:
- Mange daily operations of all aspects of the retreat center
- Complete all managerial functions for retreat center staff including but not limited to: recruitment and selection, training, scheduling, providing direction, delegating assignments, providing evaluations, addressing employee concerns, and addressing employee performance issues
- In collaboration with the Executive Director, seek out and execute vendor contracts as needed
- Field and respond to all booking inquiries. Complete necessary follow up such as contract and payment execution.
- Coordinate and upkeep all relevant insurances, licensing, and certifications necessary for retreat center operations
- Meet and collaborate with agency personnel, community organizations, and other entities to plan wellness programs for participants
- Enforce rules and regulations of facilities to ensure a safe retreat center environment
- Develop and implement marketing strategies to increase participation in retreat center programming
- Assess the needs and interests of individuals and groups and plan activities accordingly, given the available equipment or facilities
- Serve as a primary point of contact for all retreat center-related inquiries from staff, clients, and external entities
- Oversee the planning, design, construction, and upkeep of facilities
- Schedule maintenance and use of facilities

Complete daily activities necessary for retreat center operations. This may include but is not limited to:
- Groundskeeping, mowing, landscaping
- Cutting and splitting firewood
- Assisting in the kitchen with cooking, dishwashing, etc.
- Shuttling visitors to and from island and around island
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications include:
- One year of experience work in a camp, retreat, or residential setting.
- Valid Drivers License
- Current Lifeguard Certification
- Current certification in or willingness to be certified in CPR and Standard First Aid within first month of hire
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and extended summer hours.
- Travel is a function of this position; ability to operate a motor vehicle is required
- Bay Lake Island does not have road access; ability to operate a motorized boat is required
- Comfort and ability to live, sleep, and work in a rustic outdoor environment with irregular hours
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs on a regular basis
- Ability to sit and/ or stand for extended periods of time
- Ability to live on site as needed
- Ability to swim proficiently and pass and administer lifeguard test
- Ability to perform rescue operations in lifeguard capacity
- Status as a Mental Health Practitioner per MN DHS is preferred
Compensation & Benefits include:
- Wage Range: $25/ hour - $30/ hour
