Staff Accountant

JOB SUMMARY

Associates in this role will be involved in maintaining the integrity and accuracy of accounting ledgers and financial records. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, preparing journal entries, maintaining and reconciling balance sheet schedules, performing bank reconciliations, assisting with monthly financial closings, participating in financial reporting and analysis and performing all accounting functions in accordance with GAAP. Staff Accountants possess a foundational understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting practices. This is an entry-level accounting position and associates in this position will work under direct supervision of the Controller or senior accounting staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Prepare journal entries and complete various general ledger operations
• Participate in monthly and annual closing process
• Prepare and distribute financial reports
• Assist in the preparation of financial statements
• Present information on various financial topics as requested by management
• Reconcile and maintain balance sheet accounts and corresponding schedules
• Prepare account or expense analysis as requested by management
• Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts
• Perform bank account reconciliations
• Assist Accounts Payable/ Receivable staff in invoice processing and reconciliation activities
• Assist Accounting Specialist staff in revenue recognition and reconciliation activities
• Assist senior accounting staff with general accounting functions or special projects
• Assist in the preparation and coordination of annual financial and tax audits
• Participate in the implementation and/or maintenance of internal financial controls, business processes, and procedures

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance from an accredited four-year university.
• One to three (1-3) years’ experience in accounting or finance related field, or equivalent combination of education and work experience
• Previous accounting experience in retail grocery, supply chain, or manufacturing industries.
• Previous experience or knowledge in accounts payable/ receivable processes.
• Previous experience or knowledge in bank reconciliation processes.
• Previous experience or knowledge in revenue recognition processes.
• Previous experience or knowledge in a corporate accounting environment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Knowledge of or experience with ERP and business intelligence systems such as Oracle Cloud Fusion, MS Dynamics AX, and QuickBooks.
• Knowledge of or experience in accounting for multiple legal entities preferred.
• Knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
• Knowledge of financial reporting principles and practices.
• Proficiency with word processing and spreadsheet applications.
• Proficiency with database management and financial reporting preferred.
• Ability to initiate and complete projects with direct supervision.
• Ability to review, analyze, and interpret common professional and technical journals, financial accounting standards, financial reports, and legal documents.
• Ability to prepare complex reports and presentations. 
• Ability to communicate and present financial information to large groups.
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
• Ability to interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Bilingual (Spanish/ English) preferred.
• Regularly required to sit; to use hands and arms for tasks that require reaching, handling, and typing; to talk and listen in individual & group settings.
• Occasionally required to stand and walk. 
• Close vision and ability to adjust focus required.
• Noise level in work environment is moderate.

Salary Range: $66,560 - $89,457
