What are the responsibilities and job description for the Concrete SLAB Specialist position at Northland Concrete & Masonry?
SLAB SPECIALIST / BIM MODELER
- Create a floor finish plan, align with desired finishes and coordinate with trades that come after us (water proofer, polishers).
- Assist in the correct mix designs for each job
- Highlight plans for different flooring types per finish schedule
- Model slabs for changes in elevation
- Model for doorway cut downs at overhead doors
- Provide bollard layout on projects
- Assist in CAD files for exterior slabs
- Create code documents for ADA ramps. Identify ADA requirements. Identify ADA routes and review construction tolerances with design slopes. Make sure drainage will still work with ADA routes. In underground parking areas, confirm top of slab aligns with handicap van clearance requirements.
- Train team members on blueprint reading
- Assist onsite foremen with concrete orders, double checking yardages to reduce waste
- Model saw cut layouts and create control joint layouts based on NCM’s practices, for approval and site use.
- Coordinate construction joint bulkheads and pour layouts (including at exterior doors, overhead doors, between areas with different finished floor types
- Create code documents for stairs on grade
- Conduct slope studies for communication with project teams, earthwork or plumbing contractors, and NCM Forman use for benchmark of sloped slabs
- Review drainage requirements. Confirm positive drainage is achieved. Direction of flow is identified (Example: make sure a parking slab doesn't drain into a door threshold of a mechanical room).
- Understand project sequence and establish/propose a pour sequence. Communicate with the team to support project scheduling.
- Review plan details with foremen and communicate any areas of importance
- Conduct site visits monitoring and assisting in quality control
- Work with the flatwork superintendent to create a culture of quality and safety on flatwork projects
