What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mental Health Specialist position at Northwest Family Services?
Northwest Family Services Mental Health Specialist works collaboratively with the Clackamas County Department of Human Services (DHS) team, serving parents with open Child Welfare cases where their mental health has been identified as a barrier to re-unification. Mental Health Specialist performs non-diagnostic mental health assessment and resource referral for the client while acting as a subject matter expert in support of the DHS Child Welfare Team.
What You’ll do
- Incorporate a trauma-informed, strengths-based approach in professional interaction with clients and colleagues.
- Provide mobile Mental Health assessment and/or screening services, including but not limited to in-home, at the DHS office or partnering institutions.
- Provide appropriate treatment recommendations and referrals to the client.
- Provide crisis stabilization and bridge services in collaboration with the DHS team, including but not limited to suicide risk assessment.
- Coordinate with multi-disciplinary team including A&D Specialists and outreach workers to meet client’s dual diagnosis needs.
- Participate in clinical and program supervision as assigned.
- Report subpoenas to program manager and respond as requested.
- Regular attendance is required, including in-person meetings with RST partners and DHS.
General Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain connections with referral sources for community, substance use recovery, mental health, and healthcare services.
- Follow the protocol, policies, and procedures of the department and agency.
- Maintain accurate & timely documentation in compliance with OARS.
- Complete and submit previous monthly billing & reports by the 1st of each month.
- Maintain necessary ROIs and comply with HIPAA guidelines for client confidentiality.
- Provide culturally responsive services that are equitable, respectful, and relevant to people from a wide variety of cultures, backgrounds and orientations.
- Attend meetings and trainings as required.
- Regularly participate in professional development.
Who you are
- Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling or related field.
- Experience in mental health treatment with demonstrable knowledge of assessment standards.
- Working knowledge of local community and mental health treatment agencies.
