Description
The Student Accounts Specialist performs student account tasks directly related to student enrollments. Duties relate to account billing and collection for students, configuration of billing rules, compliance, validation, and maintenance, database information systems, policies and procedures, and disbursements of credit balances.
This Student Accounts Specialist position is a 12-month, non-exempt, full-time position and reports to the Lead, Student Accounts Specialist. Northwest Nazarene University embraces diversity and therefore encourages all who are qualified to apply.
Essential Functions
- Provide excellent customer service, communicate with care and sensitivity to students and parents regarding student account concerns and needs
- Analyze and evaluate student accounts as necessary to determine balance due, payments received, student financial aid status, excess credit available, and maintain and report student account statistics weekly
- Configure and maintain billing and bill payment procedures at the start of and during each academic session
- Review and manage payment plans, student refunds, monthly statements, student withdrawal processes, and Dunning procedures for collections
- Post federal and institutional aid, report compliance issues to the Office of Financial Aid
- Manage and monitor student account information associated with balances, holds, third party payer information, tuition remission, pending financial aid, approval of transcript release, etc.
- Keep apprised and current with federal regulations regarding awarding and disbursing of financial aid, yearly reporting of tuition and scholarships on the federal 1098-T tax form, Title IV notification requirements and FERPA requirements
- Coordinate and supervise logistical preparations and participate in annual new student orientation and pre-registration events
- Maintain third-party invoicing and payment for Study Abroad and International Exchange Programs
- Submit annual reporting of deferred revenue to the University Controller
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- Strong organization skills and detail oriented, with the ability to work quickly in an open environment with frequent interruptions
- Excellent customer service skills with strong communication skills, both oral and written
- Ability to maintain confidential information and files
- High-level knowledge of accounting principles and general ledger structure
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel and an understanding of database structure and ability to learn computer programs and/or various report tools and applications as needed
- Exemplify a high level of decision making and problem solving

Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Experience in Student accounts or related field preferred
- Collection experience preferred

Salary will be determined by the educational background and experience.
