PURPOSE :
The Family and Community Relations Coordinator provides day-to-day support for all students and families of the Norwalk Public Schools community, contributing to the engagement of students, families, and the community in formal and informal settings. As part of the NPS Family Center staff, this position assists in engaging families beginning with their initial enrollment into the district and continues to engage families through parent workshops, community outreach, and more.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Play an active role in the Multilingual Learners registration process and work collaboratively with the state required Data Facilitator, and MLLs and their families.
- Work with staff, administrators, principals, community, families, and students to gain feedback and aid when dealing with issues that arise.
- Facilitate and execute testing and onboarding of all MLL students' registration process to expedite student enrollment, and school placement.
- Reviewing international and out of state transcripts to identify transferrable credits for high school students.
- Conduct family visits to verify residency, as needed.
- Actively organize and participate in events and activities of the district's Central Office.
- Must participate and be available for all NPS community events, such as festivals, community "nights out," neighborhood celebrations, and any relevant family activities which will require attendance during weekends.
- Work closely with school, parent, and community organizations to increase family engagement.
- Work with administration of English and Spanish proficiency assessments.
- Explain in detail the benefits of language program choice options available in the district.
- Help support parents with strategies they can use to support their child's education and with strategies they can work with their student.
