What are the responsibilities and job description for the Academic Director for History, Military History, and Museum Administration - Norwich University position at Norwich University?
The College of Graduate and Continuing Studies invites applications for the next Academic Director (AD) for History, Military History, and Museum Administration. Norwich is seeking an entrepreneurial leader interested in growing the scale and reach of these online programs along with their ties to archives, museums, and government agencies. This administrative leadership role oversees and curates the graduate online Master of Arts programs in History, Military History, and Museum Administration.
In addition to teaching at least two courses per year, the AD manages course content and faculty hiring, supports student engagement and retention, and manages a robust cohort of adjunct faculty - a national team of historians and curators. We are looking for a motivated leader who wants to expand the national visibility of these programs while keeping them current and engaging with strong ties to museums, archives, and government agencies.
As an agent of change and growth, the AD will pursue collaborative opportunities with our exceptional on-campus departments and research centers: the Department of History and Political Science, the Center for Global Resilience and Security, the AI Center, and the Center for Peace and War. The Center for Peace and War is one of the oldest research centers on campus, and its benchmark event each year is the Military Writer's Symposium. We are looking for the next academic director to continue evolving ties between the graduate programs, facilitate fellowship opportunities for students, and presentation opportunities for student research at the Military Writers Symposium and other on-campus events.
Job Requirements:
The candidate must have a history or military history background, a track record of relevant scholarship, and an enthusiasm for engaging online teaching. Experience with course and curriculum development is required. A terminal degree in history is preferred, but candidates with a master's degree in history and substantial work experience are also eligible.
These programs serve a population of working adult learners, and courses are designed to integrate tasks tested through research, case studies, and capstone projects. A strong candidate will be interested in this model of teaching and learning and will have experience with online programs and alternate modalities of instruction.
This position is a remote-working twelve-month position and does not require local residency. However, the academic director is expected to visit the campus for significant events, like symposia and commencement.
