Fulfills the mission of Norwich University by being the voice behind our historic brand, responsible for telling engaging stories across a variety of channels - from traditional media to social, blogs and web copy. An integral part of a highly collaborative team, working closely with our marketing, digital, enrollment, and academics teams to assure not only accuracy of content, but the tone and brand hits the mark with the intended audience. The right candidate will enjoy working with the University community and cultivate those relationships to produce copy which effectively communicates the Norwich brand story across all channels.

The Marketing & Communications Office (MCO) is focused on reaching and surpassing its business goals by continually deepening our understanding of customers and delivering experiences that support our brand promise. We're looking for an experienced Content Marketing Writer who's ready to do this and more. The ideal candidate has experience in brand strategy and a deep understanding of how brand and digital strategy is implemented to help tell and amplify compelling stories that inspire customer loyalty. They will also have an innovative mindset and continually look for new ways to ensure that our storytelling best-in-class.

Essential Functions

  • Content Collection, Curation, and Identification. Collects, curates, and identifies content from multiple internal and external sources for further development and publication across MCO channels, platforms, and the university's website. Ensures all content is relevant, timely, and aligns with the university's communication goals.
  • Copywriting and Messaging Development. Creates compelling, engaging, and strategic copy and headlines for print, digital, and video assets to drive prospective student recruitment, support current student retention, promote advancement and giving, and reinforce brand messaging. Ensures all written content consistently aligns with the university's overall brand, voice, tone, and business objectives to maintain a unified identity.
  • Brand Consistency and Quality Control. Guarantees that all content is consistent in terms of tone, style, and messaging, ensuring that all pieces are on-brand, accurate, and tailored to resonate with the intended target audience. Adheres to deadlines while maintaining a high standard of quality and accuracy across all content forms.
  • Simplification and Audience Engagement. Distills complex academic, operational, and program-related information into clear, digestible, and compelling messaging that resonates with diverse audiences. Creates content that communicates value propositions in a relatable and audience-focused manner.
  • Cross-Departmental Collaboration. Works closely with internal teams, including design, web, communications, marketing, and admissions, to create cohesive content that speaks directly to the university's audience. Collaborates with departments to identify new content opportunities, ensuring alignment with institutional goals and priorities.
  • Data-Driven Content Strategy. Utilizes data from admissions, industry trends, search analytics, audience insights, and content performance metrics to continuously refine content. Leverages these insights to develop targeted, personalized content strategies that improve engagement and conversion rates.
  • Content Ideation and Development. Collaborates across departments to brainstorm, develop, and execute creative content initiatives for all marketing and communication channels. Identifies opportunities to refresh, repurpose, or reformat existing content to maximize impact and extend the life cycle of key messaging.
  • Trend Research and Innovation. Conducts ongoing research into industry trends, competitor strategies, and emerging digital marketing techniques. Proactively tests innovative content approaches and formats to ensure the university's messaging remains fresh, relevant, and competitive in a fast-evolving digital landscape.
  • Integrated Marketing Campaigns. Works collaboratively within project teams to conceptualize, plan, and execute integrated digital marketing campaigns. Ensures that content aligns with campaign goals and is optimized for maximum reach and engagement across multiple platforms.
  • Content Monitoring and Optimization. Actively monitors and assesses content performance across the university's channels, including news, social media, publications, and press releases. Identifies opportunities for cross-promotion and content repurposing, ensuring content is leveraged effectively to enhance visibility and engagement with key audiences, programs, and initiatives.
  • SEO and AI Optimization. Collaborates with digital marketing teams to implement on-page SEO best practices, optimize content for search engines and AI-driven search platforms, and enhance discoverability. Ensures content aligns with keyword strategies, integrates AI-generated insights, and leverages emerging technologies to improve visibility and engagement.
  • Web Publishing and Accessibility. Publishes content on the university's website using the content management system (CMS), ensuring accuracy, proper formatting, and alignment with SEO best practices. Assists in ensuring accessibility for video content by writing captions, creating transcriptions, and collaborating with multimedia teams to ensure accuracy and compliance with accessibility standards.

  • Maintains confidentiality of sensitive or private information.
  • Communicates with employees, students, and others in a respectful and clear manner.
  • Serves on University committees, councils, workgroups, or other designated bodies as assigned.
  • Achieves, maintains proficiency in, and utilizes computers, telephones, and other job-related equipment, including related systems and software.
  • Speaks, reads, and writes in English.
  • Communicates by telephone, email, letter, in person, or other means or device.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, English, or a related field.
  • 5 years of communication experience, with a focus on content and persuasive writing.
  • Strong creative writing skills and experience writing engaging content and crisp copy for a wide audience.
  • A passion for storytelling and brand marketing.
  • Knowledge of or experience with military environments, Senior Military Colleges (SMCs), or organizations with a strong focus on leadership, discipline, and service is strongly preferred.
  • Multi-tasks well; manages time effectively through strong organization, time management, and project management skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, SharePoint, Teams, and Outlook).
  • Familiarity with content management systems (e.g., WordPress, Drupal) and basic SEO best practices.
  • Experience with video captioning or transcription tools is a plus.
  • Able to sit, squat, reach, push, pull, and manipulate related equipment; lift 15 pounds; travel outdoors to various parts of the campus.
  • Work some evening or weekend hours.
  • Travel as needed (public or private transportation).
