Job Description: Cloud-Native Database Administrator (DBA) - Microsoft Platform
Position Overview
We are seeking aCloud-Native Database Administrator (DBA)with expertise inMicrosoft Azure and SQL Serverto manage and optimize our cloud-based database solutions. The ideal candidate will be responsible fordatabase deployment, security, performance tuning, automation, and high availabilityin a cloud environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Deploy, configure, and manageAzure SQL Database, Azure Managed Instance, SQL Server on Azure VMs, and other cloud-native database solutions.
- Ensure databasehigh availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR)usingGeo-Replication, Failover Groups, and Backups.
- Optimize cloud resources to balanceperformance and cost-efficiency.
- Monitor databasequery performance, indexing, and execution plansto improve response times.
- UseAzure Monitor, SQL Profiler, Extended Events, andQuery Storefor database health checks.
- Implementpartitioning, caching, and shardingstrategies for large-scale data operations.
- Security & Compliance
- ConfigureRBAC (Role-Based Access Control)andAzure AD authenticationfor secure access.
- ImplementTransparent Data Encryption (TDE), Always Encrypted, and Data Masking.
- EnforceGDPR, HIPAA, or SOC 2compliance policies for cloud database security.
- Support database deployments and updates usingCI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Terraform, ARM templates).
- DevelopPowerShell scripts, Azure Logic Apps, and SQL Agent Jobsfor routine maintenance.
- Backup & Disaster Recovery
- Configureautomated backups, point-in-time restore, and long-term retention.
- Developfailover and DR strategiesacross Azure regions.
- Conductregular failover teststo ensure disaster readiness.
- Troubleshooting & Incident Response
- Diagnose and resolve database connectivity, query failures, and cloud service outages.
- Work withMicrosoft Azure Supportfor escalated troubleshooting.
- Establishincident response plans and database monitoring dashboards.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 5 yearsof experience as a Database Administrator (DBA) with expertise inMicrosoft SQL Server and Azure SQL.
- Hands-on experience withAzure SQL Managed Instance, Cosmos DB, or PostgreSQL on Azure.
- Proficiency inT-SQL, PowerShell scripting, and automation tools.
- Strong knowledge ofdatabase replication, indexing strategies, and query tuning.
- Familiarity withDevOps practicesfor database automation.
- Experience withAzure Security Center, Azure Sentinel, and Log Analytics.
- Knowledge ofcloud networking (VNET, Private Endpoints, Firewalls)for database security.
- Microsoft Certificationssuch asAzure Database Administrator Associate (DP-300)orAzure Solutions Architect(preferred).
