Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated Cytotechnologist to join our dynamic laboratory team. In this critical role, you will ensure the accurate handling and preparation of specimens to deliver exceptional diagnostic services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accurately manage incoming specimens, ensuring proper identification, numbering, and preparation as smears or cell blocks.
- Provide initial diagnostic assessments on all cytopathology consultations.
- Deliver final diagnoses on all negative gynecological specimens; refer all abnormal gynecological and non-gyn material cases to the pathologist for further evaluation.
- Utilize our laboratory information system to input results and track quality control/quality assurance data, while ensuring prompt retrieval of patient information.
- Recommend and implement procedural enhancements to address quality assurance issues and elevate customer satisfaction.
- Engage in both formal and informal education initiatives related to clinical cytology and cytopathology, maintaining expertise through continuous professional development.
- Collaborate with laboratory staff and other healthcare professionals across various departments, including radiology, surgery, and oncology, to facilitate comprehensive patient management.
- Maintain accurate records of slides screened and hours dedicated to screening tasks.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, department procedures, quality assurance protocols, safety guidelines, and infection control measures. Participate in mandatory training and continuing education to meet accreditation standards.
- Execute additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Must possess ASCP certification in Cytotechnology along with a Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent qualification from an accredited institution.
- Strong interpersonal skills and meticulous attention to detail are essential.
- Ability to move continuously throughout the hospital, including prolonged standing.
- Proficient in understanding directions and responding effectively to inquiries.
- Must tolerate working with disease-bearing specimens and exposure to various laboratory substances, including chemicals and low-level radiation.
- Capacity to differentiate colors accurately.
- Occasional lifting, moving, or carrying of materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds is required.
- Competent in inputting and retrieving data from a computer system.
