Job Title: Hydrographic Technician
Job Summary:
The Hydrographic Technician is responsible for collecting, analyzing, and processing hydrographic data using advanced survey equipment, including hydrographic drones. This role supports marine surveying projects for navigation safety, environmental monitoring, and offshore construction. The technician will work closely with hydrographers, engineers, and project managers to ensure accurate mapping of underwater features.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate and maintain hydrographic drones (autonomous/unmanned surface vehicles) for data collection.
- Conduct hydrographic surveys using multibeam and single-beam sonar, LiDAR, and other remote sensing technologies.
- Process and analyze bathymetric, topographic, and geophysical data using specialized software.
- Assist in the calibration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of survey equipment.
- Interpret hydrographic data to produce charts, maps, and reports for clients and stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., IHO, NOAA, USACE) and company protocols.
- Work in field environments, including coastal, offshore, and inland water bodies.
- Support research and development of new hydrographic drone technologies.
- Maintain detailed logs and records of survey operations.
- Collaborate with GIS specialists, marine engineers, and environmental scientists on multi-disciplinary projects.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Hydrography, Marine Science, Geomatics, or a related field.
- Experience with hydrographic drones, autonomous survey systems, and remote sensing technologies.
- Proficiency in hydrographic survey software (e.g., HYPACK, CARIS, QPS Qimera, ArcGIS).
- Knowledge of positioning and navigation systems such as RTK GPS and INS.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in challenging marine environments.
- Willingness to travel and work on vessels for extended periods.
- Certifications such as IHO Cat B, TWIC, or UAV/drone pilot license are a plus.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $16.95 - $18.48 per hour
